Falk: Bayern Has Bigger Signing Than Wirtz
Bayern Munich have one key area that they can’t afford to not address in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Bavarians’ tug of war with Liverpool for Florian Wirtz has been well-documented in recent weeks.
However, it can’t be denied that Vincent Kompany’s men would be particularly well-served with some reinforcement of the backline.
In particular, a defensive leader is an absolute must for the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern must sign Jonathan Tah
Jonathan Tah is a must-have for FC Bayern this summer.
Max Eberl, it should be noted, was desperate to land the Bayer Leverkusen centre-half last year. However, the supervisory board were not prepared to sanction the funds required to prise the German away from the BayArena.
Now, things have changed. The Barcelona target’s contract is set to run out this summer, and the player has already shared a heartfelt farewell with the fans.
More to the point, Bayern are prepared to back Max Eberl to bring Tah to the Allianz Arena.
“It would be brilliant to have Florian Wirtz at Bayern, but in my view, it’s more important to have a better defence and structure for the next campaign,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“They have everything, barring a defensive leader, to be competitive next term.
“The season showed that Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae can both be a very good defensive partner provided they have someone who guides them. They can’t be that leader for each other.”
Is Tah more important than Florian Wirtz?
As far as goals and creativity are concerned, FC Bayern can have few complaints.
There’s no question that a signing of Wirtz’s calibre would still elevate the team in that particular department.
Whilst stats indicate that Bayern possess one of the tightest defences in Europe, it shouldn’t be forgotten that questions have still been asked of the club’s defence in the Champions League.
The backline has already cost the club a dream finale in Munich this year. We should consider this a firm warning ahead of our 2025/26 campaign.
Bayern still need Wirtz
Assuming that Bayern can manage to tick off the signing of Jonathan Tah, it would still be more than advisable to secure Florian Wirtz’s signature.
Firstly, it doesn’t suit the Bundesliga or Bayern to see a top German prospect lured by the riches of the Premier League.
Secondly, there is clear ground for the champions to improve as far as creativity is concerned, given that Vincent Kompany’s men have evidently outperformed their xG total.
PSG and Liverpool, by comparison, have put more sustainable figures on the board.
