The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended the resilience and consistency of the organisers of the annual Nigeria Pitch Awards for sustaining the platform since its inception.

The winners of various categories of the 12th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards were announced at a ceremony held at Ibis Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, where IGP Disu was honoured with the Special Achievement in Sports Award.

The award was received on his behalf by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai.

Speaking through the Lagos CP, the IGP praised the commitment and determination of Lender Consult International Limited, organisers of the Nigeria Pitch Awards and led by Mr Shina Phillips, for maintaining the awards consistently since the first edition.

The Lagos CP, who spoke before dignitaries including the Interim Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Ademola Olajire, sports editors, journalists and other stakeholders, said the IGP was delighted by the recognition.

He, however, noted that the honour should be seen as a recognition of the contributions of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force who continue to risk their lives in the service of the nation.

The IGP, a distinguished sportsman who has excelled in judo, said he valued the recognition from the Nigeria Pitch Awards.

According to him, beyond its primary responsibility of law enforcement and protecting society from criminals, the Nigeria Police Force has also contributed significantly to the development and promotion of sports excellence in the country.

He noted that several police officers, both male and female, had won medals for the Force and Nigeria at various national and international championships.

IGP Disu congratulated all the winners of the 12th Nigeria Pitch Awards, stressing that the ceremony was not only about those who received awards but also about every stakeholder whose efforts had contributed to sustaining the platform over the years.

He commended the organisers for their consistency and dedication to recognising and celebrating excellence in Nigerian football and sports.
