Mason Greenwood agrees Fenerbahce terms as Marseille stand firm on transfer valuation

Mason Greenwood agrees Fenerbahce terms as Marseille stand firm on transfer valuation

Mason Greenwood has reportedly agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce ahead of a potential summer transfer, but Marseille remain determined not to let their star forward leave on the cheap.

The Turkish giants have made significant progress in discussions with Greenwood’s camp, yet negotiations between the clubs remain some distance apart as Marseille continue to hold out for a substantial transfer fee.

Fenerbahce make their move

Fenerbahce’s newly-installed leadership team has successfully negotiated a lucrative contract package with Greenwood and his representatives, according to reports from L’Equipe.

The Super Lig side are currently prepared to offer around €30 million plus performance-related add-ons to secure the 24-year-old’s signature. However, that valuation falls well below Marseille’s expectations.

The French club view Greenwood as one of their most valuable assets and are reluctant to weaken their squad without receiving a fee they believe reflects his importance.

Marseille refuse to compromise

Despite ongoing financial concerns and increasing scrutiny from French football authorities, Marseille are not prepared to accept a discounted offer.

There has been a growing belief among interested clubs that Marseille’s financial position could force them into a sale this summer, but sources close to the club insist that assumption is misplaced.

Speaking to L’Equipe, a figure close to Marseille’s hierarchy said:

“Many suitors also think OM will sell Greenwood on the cheap this summer because the club is forced to sell players. But they are mistaken; there is too much at stake symbolically and financially regarding this matter.”

The Ligue 1 outfit are therefore expected to maintain a hard-line negotiating stance unless a significantly improved offer arrives.

European rivals face complications

Fenerbahce are not alone in monitoring Greenwood’s situation.

Several clubs across Europe and the Middle East continue to track developments, but many face obstacles of their own before making a formal move.

Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal are both reportedly interested, though any approach is likely to depend on player sales. Atletico may need to resolve the future of Julian Alvarez, while Al-Hilal would have to create space in their squad and wage structure.

Roma are also credited with strong interest. New manager Gian Piero Gasperini is believed to view Greenwood as an ideal fit for his attacking system, but the Serie A club would first need to offload players such as Manu Kone and Evan Ndicka before pursuing a deal.

What happens next?

For now, Greenwood’s future remains unresolved.

While personal terms with Fenerbahce appear to be in place, Marseille’s valuation remains the biggest hurdle to overcome. Unless the Turkish side return with an improved proposal, the French club are prepared to keep hold of one of their most influential players heading into the new season.

With several clubs still monitoring the situation, Greenwood’s transfer saga could become one of the most closely watched stories of the summer window.
