RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande drops major hint he’s set to snub Liverpool and join European giants PSG
Liverpool’s hopes of landing one of Europe’s most exciting young talents may have taken a significant hit after RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande publicly admitted his affection for Paris Saint-Germain.
The teenage winger has emerged as one of the hottest properties in world football following a sensational breakthrough campaign in Germany, attracting interest from several elite clubs. However, his latest comments suggest a move to the French champions could be his preferred destination.
Diomande reveals PSG dream
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 12 months, becoming a key figure for RB Leipzig while establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous attacking players.
Despite growing interest from the Premier League, Diomande has openly acknowledged his connection to PSG and revealed that supporting the club has been part of his upbringing.
Speaking about his future, the winger said: “My future? I have a team that takes care of that. I try to stay as focused as possible. I’ve loved PSG since I was little. I think my father was a PSG supporter. But I’m not thinking about the future, I’m staying focused on the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after that.”
While the teenager stopped short of confirming any transfer plans, his comments are likely to encourage PSG and concern Liverpool, who have been heavily linked with a move.
Liverpool face setback in Salah succession plan
Liverpool had reportedly identified Diomande as one of the leading candidates to eventually fill the void left by Mohamed Salah’s departure.
The interest is understandable given the winger’s remarkable numbers during the 2025-26 campaign. Diomande registered 20 goal contributions in 33 Bundesliga appearances and finished the season as the league’s most successful dribbler, completing an impressive 118 take-ons.
His combination of pace, directness and creativity has made him one of the most coveted young attackers in Europe.
However, reports suggesting PSG have already established a strong relationship with the player’s camp have placed the Ligue 1 champions firmly in the driving seat.
With Diomande now publicly discussing his admiration for the Parisian giants, Liverpool may find it increasingly difficult to convince him to choose Anfield over the Parc des Princes.
PSG continue youth-focused recruitment strategy
PSG’s transformation under their current sporting project has made them an increasingly attractive destination for emerging stars.
Rather than focusing exclusively on established superstars, the club has invested heavily in elite young talent capable of becoming long-term cornerstones of the squad.
Diomande fits that profile perfectly.
Still only 19, the winger possesses enormous upside and could become another key piece in PSG’s next generation alongside several of Europe’s brightest prospects.
His French connections and childhood support for the club only strengthen the possibility of a move.
Liverpool facing a crucial summer
Missing out on Diomande would be particularly frustrating for Liverpool given the scale of change currently taking place at Anfield.
The club is already preparing for the departures of several influential figures, creating an urgent need for reinforcements across multiple positions.
Among the most significant exits is that of defender Ibrahima Konate, who is reportedly closing in on a move to Real Madrid after deciding to leave Merseyside. Veteran left-back Andrew Robertson is also set to depart, while Salah’s exit has created a major vacancy in Liverpool’s attack.
As a result, securing top-class replacements has become a priority.
Whether Liverpool can persuade Diomande to reconsider his apparent preference for PSG remains to be seen, but his latest comments have undoubtedly handed the French champions a significant advantage in one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer races.
