World Cup 2026

Romelu Lukaku Nets Historic 90th Belgium Goal In Victory Over Croatia

Romelu Lukaku reached another incredible milestone after scoring his 90th international goal in Belgium national football team’s 2-0 victory over Croatia national football team in a World Cup warm-up clash.

The experienced striker came off the bench to seal the win in dramatic fashion, once again proving why he remains one of international football’s most lethal goalscorers.

Tielemans Gives Belgium Control

Belgium produced a disciplined performance at Stadion Rujevica in Rijeka as they continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute through Youri Tielemans.

Following sustained pressure from the visitors, Jérémy Doku delivered a dangerous cross into the box that eventually fell kindly for the midfielder after multiple deflections.

Tielemans remained calm and slotted home to give Belgium a deserved lead.

Lukaku Makes History Again

The headline moment arrived deep into stoppage time.

After entering the match in the 73rd minute, Lukaku showed exactly why Belgium still depend heavily on his experience and finishing ability.

The striker latched onto a direct pass from Hans Vanaken before smashing a powerful finish past Dominik Kotarski in the 96th minute.

That strike marked his 90th goal for Belgium — another astonishing achievement in an already legendary international career.

Garcia Full Of Praise For Lukaku

Belgium manager Rudi Garcia praised Lukaku’s mentality and impact after the match.

According to Garcia, the veteran forward immediately began pressing Croatia’s defenders the moment he stepped onto the pitch.

“Lukaku was born to score goals,” Garcia said.

The coach admitted he still expects high standards from his star striker but expressed satisfaction with the overall performance.

“Everyone is happy for him and has a lot of respect for him,” Garcia added.

“Now he has to continue working with the coaching staff and keep improving.”

Belgium Looking Sharp Ahead Of World Cup

Garcia also praised Belgium’s overall tactical discipline during the match.

Despite facing a Croatia side still led by legendary midfielder Luka Modrić, Belgium defended effectively and limited the hosts to very few clear-cut opportunities.

“The players defended as a team,” Garcia explained.

Belgium’s structure and organisation allowed them to maintain control for large periods of the game while continuing to build momentum ahead of the World Cup.

Lukaku’s Legacy Continues To Grow

At 33, Lukaku continues to add remarkable numbers to his international legacy.

The SSC Napoli striker remains Belgium’s all-time leading scorer by a huge margin and shows no signs of slowing down.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Belgium fans will hope their record-breaking striker can carry this form onto football’s biggest stage once again.
