Jude Bellingham backed for future Liverpool move as Robbie Fowler highlights area for improvement

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler believes Jude Bellingham could eventually make a return to the Premier League, with the former England striker admitting he would love to see the Real Madrid midfielder wearing a Reds shirt one day.

The 22-year-old has established himself as one of world football’s premier midfielders since leaving Birmingham City for Borussia Dortmund in 2020 before securing a blockbuster move to Real Madrid three years later.

While Bellingham remains a key figure at the Santiago Bernabeu, Fowler believes a move back to England cannot be ruled out in the future.

Fowler: Liverpool fans would welcome Bellingham

Speaking exclusively to GOAL through BetMGM, Fowler acknowledged that Bellingham is currently playing for one of the biggest clubs in football but suggested circumstances could change over the coming years.

“I want to see good players at Anfield, so I’d love to see him there,” Fowler said.

“When we talk about the Premier League, it is regarded as the best league in the world. But at the moment he’s playing for one of the greatest clubs in the world at Real Madrid.

“I don’t think he’s looking to come back to the Premier League right now. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen in three, four or five years’ time.”

The former Liverpool striker added that England’s top flight would remain an attractive destination should Bellingham decide to leave Spain later in his career.

“Certainly, if he’s not playing for Madrid or one of the other elite clubs in Europe, the Premier League is the place to be. As a Liverpool supporter, you’d always want to see players of his quality at your club.”

Bellingham’s rise to the top

Bellingham’s career trajectory has been remarkable. After breaking through at Birmingham as a teenager, he quickly became one of Europe’s most sought-after prospects before excelling at Borussia Dortmund.

His move to Real Madrid accelerated his rise further, with the midfielder becoming a Champions League winner and a regular contender in discussions surrounding football’s biggest individual awards.

However, injuries and inconsistent team success over the last two seasons have generated debate regarding his role for both club and country, especially with emerging talents such as Morgan Rogers pushing for greater prominence in England’s midfield setup.

Fowler identifies key area for improvement

Despite praising Bellingham’s talent, Fowler believes there is still room for development if the midfielder wants to reach an even higher level.

“When I look at him, I see an unbelievably talented player,” Fowler explained.

“He’s been outstanding since his Birmingham days, did brilliantly at Dortmund and then earned that move to Real Madrid. Going forward, he’s a fantastic player and we all know what he can do.”

The Liverpool icon suggested that consistency and defensive discipline are the areas where Bellingham can continue to evolve.

“For me, it’s about doing it consistently over and over again. I also think there are times when the discipline of getting back and helping defensively could improve.

“Jude is sometimes quicker to get forward than he is to recover his position. Going forward he’s top quality, but consistency and discipline can take him to another level.”

World Cup focus for England star

Any transfer speculation is unlikely to distract Bellingham in the immediate future, with the midfielder preparing to play a leading role for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As Thomas Tuchel’s side attempt to end six decades of international disappointment, Bellingham is expected to remain one of the central figures in England’s bid for global glory.

Whether his long-term future remains in Madrid or eventually leads him back to the Premier League, Fowler believes the midfielder still has plenty of room to grow despite already being among the game’s elite performers.
