Michael Olise And Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Would Be “Unbelievable” Signings For Liverpool, Says John Arne Riise

Liverpool’s summer transfer window is already shaping up to be one of the most fascinating in recent years. With Mohamed Salah preparing to leave Anfield after an unforgettable spell, the Reds are now being linked with some of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents — including Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise and Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise believes both players would be sensational signings for the Premier League champions, but he is unsure whether the club has the financial power to complete such expensive deals after splashing huge money in 2025.

Riise, speaking exclusively to GOAL in association with ToonieBet, admitted Liverpool fans would love to see either player arrive at Anfield.

“They would be unbelievable signings for Liverpool,” Riise said. “But I don’t know how much money they have left to spend or whether they want to spend that big again.”

That comment perfectly captures the uncertainty surrounding Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer.

Life After Mohamed Salah

Replacing Salah is not just about goals — it is about replacing an icon. The Egyptian superstar leaves behind a staggering legacy after scoring 257 goals for the club and helping Liverpool win multiple major trophies.

His departure creates a massive gap in Arne Slot’s attack, and naturally, fans are dreaming about world-class replacements.

Olise has been one of the standout performers in Europe with his creativity, pace and technical brilliance, while Kvaratskhelia continues to establish himself as one of football’s most dangerous wide forwards after his impressive rise in Ligue 1 and European competitions.

Both players fit Liverpool’s attacking philosophy perfectly. Olise brings flair, directness and elite playmaking ability, while Kvaratskhelia offers explosive dribbling, energy and goals from wide positions.

However, signing either star would likely require Liverpool to spend well over £80 million — and possibly much more.

Did Liverpool Already Spend Too Much?

Liverpool’s aggressive recruitment drive in 2025 may now limit their ability to make another blockbuster move.

Riise pointed out that the Reds “went big last season” and suggested the club could now focus on more balanced, system-based signings rather than superstar arrivals.

The former left-back also hinted that several current players have underperformed this season and need to raise their standards moving forward.

“There’s changes that need to be done,” Riise explained. “Some players have been way off form and need to step up next season.”

Liverpool are also facing uncertainty around several key names. Ibrahima Konate is edging toward free agency, while Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and goalkeeper Alisson have all been linked with possible exits.

It means this summer could be more about rebuilding smartly than simply making glamorous signings.

Rio Ngumoha: Liverpool’s Future Star?

One bright spark for Liverpool has been teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha.

The 17-year-old ended the 2025-26 campaign with two senior goals and growing excitement around his long-term future. Some supporters even believe he could help soften the blow of Salah’s departure.

Riise, however, urged patience.

“He needs to stay at Liverpool and get a great pre-season,” he said. “He will get more starts next season, but he’s only 17 and cannot play every week yet.”

The Liverpool legend believes Ngumoha has enormous potential but stressed that expecting him to immediately replace a player of Salah’s level would be unrealistic.

Instead, the youngster should be introduced gradually while Liverpool continue searching for an experienced attacker capable of carrying the burden of replacing one of the greatest players in club history.

A Huge Summer Ahead At Anfield

Liverpool’s transfer strategy this summer could define the next era under Arne Slot.

Do they break the bank for a superstar like Olise or Kvaratskhelia? Or do they trust their emerging young talents while making smarter, more affordable additions?

One thing is certain — replacing Mohamed Salah will not be easy.

But if Liverpool somehow manage to land one of Europe’s elite wingers, the excitement at Anfield could quickly return to fever pitch.
