Azpilicueta Praises Akor Adams After Sevilla’s Draw With Real Betis
César Azpilicueta has singled out Akor Adams for special praise following Sevilla FC’s 2-2 draw against Real Betis.
Although the Nigerian forward did not get on the scoresheet in the fiercely contested clash, Azpilicueta admitted Adams’ physical presence and relentless work rate stood out.
“He Deserves It”
Speaking after the match, the former Chelsea captain commended the 26-year-old’s strength, movement and commitment throughout the encounter.
“He is very physical, can score goals, and make movements,” Azpilicueta said.
“It is a pity that he didn’t score because he deserves that after his games. Running from the first minute to the end is not easy.”
Azpilicueta emphasised that Adams’ persistence would eventually be rewarded.
“He did a very good job. Him, Alexis, and Isaac, the three strikers who played today, worked so hard for the team. It is a pity for Akor, but I hope he feels proud of his effort, and I’m sure the goals will come sooner rather than later.”
Making His Mark In La Liga
Adams has quickly built a reputation in Spain for his:
-
Physical strength
-
Intelligent in-box positioning
-
Relentless pressing
Since joining Sevilla on January 27, 2025, for a reported €5 million, the Nigerian striker has contributed six goals and three assists this season.
He signed a contract running until 2029, underlining Sevilla’s long-term faith in his development.
Confidence From A Veteran
Praise from a seasoned defender like Azpilicueta — known for his leadership and experience at the highest level — will serve as encouragement for Adams as he continues adapting to Spanish football.
While the goals did not come in the derby, his performance did not go unnoticed. And if Azpilicueta’s prediction proves accurate, it may only be a matter of time before Adams adds more to his tally in La Liga.
