Justin Rose Makes History With Record-Breaking Farmers Insurance Open Victory
England’s Justin Rose produced one of the most commanding performances in recent PGA Tour history, clinching a stunning victory at the Farmers Insurance Open with a new tournament-record score.
The 45-year-old entered the final round at Torrey Pines’ South Course holding a six-shot lead and never looked under threat. Rose calmly signed for a two-under-par 70, finishing at 23 under par, a full seven shots clear of the chasing pack.
A Performance For The History Books
Rose’s total of 23 under par eclipsed the previous tournament record of 22 under, jointly held by Tiger Woods (1999) and George Burns (1987). It was a statement win that highlighted both precision and composure from start to finish.
Birdies at the sixth, eighth, and ninth holes helped him build momentum early in the round, while a lone bogey at the 12th proved nothing more than a minor blemish on an otherwise flawless week.
Wire-To-Wire Dominance
Already a Farmers Insurance Open champion in 2019, Rose led the field after every round this week, completing a rare wire-to-wire victory. In doing so, he became the oldest player since Rocco Mediate in 2010 to achieve that feat on the PGA Tour.
The win also marked Rose’s 13th PGA Tour title and his first since lifting the FedEx St Jude Championship trophy last August.
“This has been a huge win and to start the season with a win is amazing,” Rose said after his triumph.
“I knew 23 under was a record. I’ve grown the lead each day so I wanted to finish seven ahead rather than six.”
Focused, Motivated, And Still Hungry
Despite his veteran status, Rose made it clear that his competitive fire remains strong.
“I had my own little mini goals down the stretch which kept me focused,” he explained.
“I’m still loving it and working hard and do believe there is some good stuff ahead of me.”
The Chasing Pack
American Pierceson Coody produced the round of the day with a brilliant seven-under-par 65, earning a share of second place alongside Si Woo Kim of South Korea and Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune.
Jake Knapp and Stephan Jaeger finished one shot further back, while five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, playing his first PGA Tour event since leaving LIV Golf, ended the week tied for 56th.
A Statement Start To The Season
Rose’s dominant display sends a clear message to the rest of the field. Age has not dulled his edge, and with a record-breaking performance to open the season, he has firmly re-established himself as a serious contender on the PGA Tour.
