AC Milan Stand Firm On Mike Maignan As Club Promises New Contract Talks

AC Milan have moved to shut down growing speculation surrounding the future of star goalkeeper Mike Maignan, with sporting director Igli Tare making it clear the club has no intention of letting their No.1 walk away.

With Maignan attracting strong interest from Chelsea and Juventus as his contract approaches its final months, Milan’s hierarchy are keen to reassure fans that renewal talks are firmly on the agenda.

Milan Respond To Transfer Speculation

Maignan’s contract situation has become one of the hottest talking points in European football. The France international’s deal expires at the end of the season, alerting elite clubs looking to capitalise on a potential bargain.

Chelsea remain in the market for a long-term, world-class goalkeeper, while Juventus are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, viewing Maignan as both a strategic signing and a chance to weaken a direct Serie A rival.

However, speaking ahead of Milan’s league clash with Sassuolo, Tare dismissed suggestions that the Rossoneri are preparing for life without their captain.

“Maignan renewal? We have never talked about numbers,” Tare said. “Talking about Mike is easy, he is an extraordinary boy and a great leader.

“He likes being at Milan and Milan likes him being here. Now let’s think about the game, and then we will talk about it.”

More Than Just A Goalkeeper

Since arriving from Lille, Maignan has become one of Milan’s most influential figures. Beyond his shot-stopping ability, he is a commanding presence in the dressing room and a key organiser of the backline.

His leadership qualities earned him the captain’s armband earlier this year, underlining just how central he is to Milan’s identity and ambitions. Losing him — especially to a domestic rival like Juventus — would represent a major setback to the club’s long-term project.

Shielding The Squad During A Title Race

Tare’s insistence on delaying contract discussions until after the immediate fixture reflects Milan’s desire to maintain focus as they battle Inter and Napoli in a tightly contested Serie A title race.

By publicly backing Maignan while downplaying transfer chatter, the club is attempting to protect both player and squad from unnecessary distractions during a crucial phase of the season.

January Window: Calm Over Chaos

Tare also offered insight into Milan’s approach to the January transfer window, stressing prudence rather than panic. He acknowledged the difficulty of finding real value mid-season and suggested internal improvement could be more important than new signings.

He highlighted Christopher Nkunku’s recent flashes of quality and expressed optimism that the attacker is close to delivering consistently. Meanwhile, Milan continue to wait patiently on Santiago Gimenez’s return from an ankle injury.

“It is very difficult [the January window],” Tare explained. “We will be attentive and see if there is something that can improve this team.

“But the team is growing. Today is a great opportunity to see the real Nkunku we are all waiting for. Gimenez has this problem, but we are waiting to truly see what he is capable of.”

What This Means For Milan

Milan’s stance is clear: Mike Maignan remains a cornerstone of the club’s present and future plans. While Europe’s heavyweights circle, the Rossoneri are preparing to sit down with their ‘extraordinary’ goalkeeper and secure stability between the posts.

The coming weeks could prove decisive, but for now, Milan are sending a strong message — they are not giving up on Mike Maignan.

Bilic returns to the national team after more than a decade away, ending a two-year absence from management as he begins a second spell in charge of his country. ## Bilic begins a second spell with Croatia The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) announced Bilic’s appointment after the Executive Committee unanimously approved the recommendation of federation president Marijan Kustic. Bilic previously managed Croatia between 2006 and 2012, guiding the national team through two European Championships before embarking on a successful club coaching career that included spells with West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Besiktas and Al-Ittihad. The federation believes his experience and deep understanding of Croatian football make him the ideal candidate to lead the next generation. ## Huge task replacing Zlatko Dalic Bilic succeeds one of the most successful managers in Croatia’s history. Dalic stepped down after the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to a remarkable tenure that included a World Cup final, a World Cup semi-final and several memorable tournament campaigns. Federation president Marijan Kustic acknowledged the size of the challenge but expressed complete confidence in Bilic. > “I would like to once again thank Zlatko for the exceptional results he achieved during his tenure. It is not easy to follow in his footsteps, but we are convinced Slaven is the right person for this role.” Kustic added that Bilic’s international pedigree and extensive coaching experience were decisive factors behind the appointment. ## Bilic honoured to return Bilic described his return as the greatest honour of his coaching career and admitted he understands the expectations that come with leading one of international football’s most consistent tournament teams. > “I would like to thank President Kustic and the Federation’s leadership for the confidence they have shown in allowing me to lead the Croatian national team once again — the greatest honour for any Croatian coach.” The 57-year-old also praised the standards established under Dalic while insisting he is ready for the responsibility. > “I am fully aware of the high expectations that follow such a remarkable period under Zlatko Dalic, but anyone who takes charge of Croatia must be prepared for that because we are a football nation that lives and breathes its national team.” ## A new chapter begins Bilic now faces the task of building on Dalic’s legacy while preparing Croatia for the next international cycle. With a blend of experienced stars and emerging young talent at his disposal, Croatia will hope their returning manager can guide them to another successful era on the international stage.
