Two Strikes And Out! Tottenham Transfer List Yves Bissouma Following Second Laughing Gas Scandal

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly transfer-listed Yves Bissouma after a second scandal involving nitrous oxide in just over a year, with the club seemingly ready to cut ties with the midfielder. The 29-year-old, once seen as a long-term midfield anchor, now faces an uncertain future as he slips further out of favour under head coach Thomas Frank.

Nitrous Oxide: Bissouma’s Double Offence

Bissouma has yet to play a competitive minute since Frank’s arrival, and new footage allegedly showing him inhaling nitrous oxide has escalated matters into full crisis mode. This isn’t his first brush with controversy. In early 2023, then-manager Ange Postecoglou suspended him for a similar incident, prompting a public apology where Bissouma admitted a “severe lack of judgement.”

With possession of nitrous oxide for recreational use now criminalised across the UK, this second alleged offence carries even more serious ramifications, potentially including a two-year prison sentence.

Thomas Frank commented cautiously:

“It’s an internal matter we are dealing with at the moment, and when we have dealt with that, then I will comment on it.”

Spurs’ Contract Dilemma

Tottenham fear that letting Bissouma’s contract expire next summer would mean losing a £25 million signing for nothing. Club officials are reportedly prepared to activate a 12-month extension clause if a transfer isn’t secured in January, but a winter sale appears the preferred option to avoid further off-field issues and financial loss.

Although Bissouma recently underwent ankle surgery, Spurs believe there’s still a market for him, albeit likely below the fee paid to Brighton in 2022.

Interest Builds Across Europe

Across Europe, clubs are reportedly monitoring Bissouma’s situation closely. French sides Nice and Marseille are watching developments, while Fenerbahce may revive negotiations after previously backing out due to fitness concerns. Bissouma was even spotted training in a gym wearing a Fenerbahce shirt, sparking more speculation about a move to Turkey.

Back in England, Everton and West Ham had previously explored options, though West Ham’s interest is unclear following the departure of former Brighton manager Graham Potter.

A move abroad now seems increasingly probable, especially with Bissouma set to join Mali for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, potentially delaying his availability for transfer negotiations.

What Next For Bissouma?

Tottenham are clearly at a crossroads: cash in during January or risk further turbulence by keeping a player whose off-field issues have overshadowed his talent. Meanwhile, interested clubs across Europe are waiting, making the next few weeks critical for both player and club.
