Is Bukayo Saka The Smart Captain Pick Over Erling Haaland This Weekend?

When Arsenal welcome Wolves to the Emirates this Saturday, it won’t just be a top-versus-bottom clash in the Premier League — it could also be the biggest FPL captaincy decision of the month.

On one side, you have Arsenal, the league leaders and the second-highest scoring team.
On the other side, you have Wolves, the team with the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

And suddenly the big question everyone’s asking is:

Should you finally switch the armband from Erling Haaland to Bukayo Saka?

Why Saka Is Suddenly Everyone’s Favourite Pick

Bukayo Saka’s price has risen to £10.2m, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. He has been one of the most consistent performers this season, and Arsenal’s December fixtures look extremely appealing:

  • ✔️ Wolves (H) – worst defence in the league

  • ✔️ Everton (A)

  • ✔️ Brighton (H)

  • ✔️ Aston Villa (H)

Meanwhile, Wolves haven’t kept a single clean sheet this season and have conceded a league-high 33 goals. They even let Manchester United put four past them at home.

FPL expert Andy from Let’s Talk FPL didn’t mince words:

“For me it is Saka or nobody.”

And honestly, he might be right.

Saka has delivered an attacking return in three consecutive games, has taken 12 shots in his last few matches, and remains Arsenal’s penalty taker. Add in his set-piece duties and bonus point magnet energy… and this fixture screams “haul potential.”

Plus, he was rested against Brentford and still scored from the bench — a good sign for full minutes this weekend.

But Wait… What About Haaland?

Let’s be clear: benching Haaland or ignoring him is never “safe.”

Haaland is still the most-selected player in FPL (73%) and despite scoring just once in his last four league games, his underlying numbers remain elite:

  • 11 shots in the box

  • 5 big chances

  • Still the focal point for City

And guess what?

Haaland has scored in all three of his visits to Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace look strong at home this season, but Manchester City have scored 15 goals in their last four league matches. If you dare to go against Haaland and he returns, you’re looking at painful red arrows.

Statman Dave put it plainly:

“Saka is already my captain.”

But even he acknowledges Haaland will be the most-backed player again this weekend.

The Risk vs Reward Situation

If you triple-up on Manchester City attackers — like combining Haaland with someone dangerous like Phil Foden — then going Saka might be a calculated risk.

If you don’t own Saka, you may need to cover Haaland.

But here’s the truth:

This is the best attacking fixture in the league this season, and Saka walks into it in superb form while Wolves look completely lost.

Haaland is dangerous.
But Saka might be explosive this weekend.

Final Verdict

If you want to play it safe → Captain Haaland.
If you want to chase rank, take advantage of the fixture, and aim for green arrows → Captain Saka.

This might be the week the FPL universe finally breaks free from the Haaland perma-captain era.
