Real Madrid Pull Out Of Konate Pursuit Amid Liverpool Defender’s Struggles
Real Madrid have reportedly ended their pursuit of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, amid concerns over his inconsistent form this season. According to The Athletic, Los Blancos have formally informed Liverpool that they will no longer pursue the France international.
Konate’s Dip In Form
Konate, now in the final year of his Liverpool contract, has faced criticism after several high-profile errors. Notably, the defender was at fault for Liverpool’s third goal in their recent 4–1 Champions League defeat to PSV. His struggles have cast doubt on his suitability for a move to one of Europe’s top clubs this season.
Renewal Talks Stall
While Real Madrid’s interest has cooled, Liverpool are still negotiating a contract extension with Konate. Talks have reportedly stalled for months over wages and contract structure, with Konate’s camp seeking a significantly higher guaranteed salary than Liverpool’s current offer.
Previously, Real Madrid had considered signing him either on a free in 2026 or in January if Liverpool agreed to a sale. That plan has now been officially shelved.
What’s Next For Konate?
With Real Madrid stepping back, Konate’s future at Liverpool is once again in focus. If he can regain form and secure a new deal, he could remain at Anfield beyond this season. For Liverpool, the priority will be balancing contract negotiations with maintaining defensive stability.
The situation continues to attract attention in the sports market, as Konate’s career trajectory remains a talking point among fans, analysts, and potential suitors across Europe.
