Vinicius Jr Backs Down? Real Madrid Star Eases Salary Demands Amid Alonso Drama
Vinicius Jr’s contract saga at Real Madrid may finally be reaching a turning point. The Brazilian winger, once determined to match Kylian Mbappe’s astronomical wages, seems ready to accept a reduced deal with the club, just weeks after tension with coach Xabi Alonso threatened to derail talks.
The winger’s current contract runs until June 2027, but negotiations have stalled for more than two years. Initially, Vinicius was offered around €20 million per season, while his camp argued for a figure closer to €30 million, putting him in Mbappe territory. Frustrations with Alonso, inconsistent starting appearances, and a drop in form only added fuel to the fire.
Reports suggest the relationship between Vinicius and Alonso was emblematic of a divided dressing room, with several players reportedly unhappy with tactical decisions and substitutions. The final straw came during the last Clasico when Vinicius reacted angrily to being substituted, prompting apologies and eventual reconciliation gestures following Real Madrid’s thrilling 4-3 win over Olympiacos in Greece.
Now, Vinicius appears willing to compromise financially. His recent dip in form, lack of concrete interest from other European giants, and a growing awareness that Real Madrid is the best club to maximize his Ballon d’Or potential have softened his stance. More importantly, the reconciliatory gestures with Alonso have removed a major emotional barrier.
With both the club and the star aligned, optimism is high that a new agreement will be reached in the coming months. Real Madrid are keen to avoid the scenario of losing Vinicius for free when he enters the final six months of his contract in January 2027.
