Mick Schumacher To Compete In 2026 IndyCar Series
Former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher is set to make his debut in the 2026 IndyCar Series, joining the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) team. The 26-year-old German, son of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, left his role as Mercedes reserve driver at the end of the 2024 season.
Schumacher’s Career Path
Mick Schumacher made 43 F1 starts with Haas before being dropped in 2022. He subsequently joined Mercedes as a reserve driver but was unable to secure a full-time F1 seat for 2026 after being rejected by Sauber/Audi and Alpine teams.
In 2024 and 2025, Schumacher competed in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine, achieving three podium finishes in 16 starts, further showcasing his versatility across racing disciplines.
Schumacher Joins RLL Team
Schumacher expressed confidence in his ability to adapt to IndyCar:
“Having both an F1 and an endurance background, and having competed in various racing series over the years, I have insights and knowledge that I am sure will contribute to a great partnership.”
RLL co-owner Bobby Rahal praised Schumacher after his test at the IMS road course:
“His test with us was exceptional; he impressed every single team member. Everyone walked away determined to bring Mick into our programme. We’re thrilled he’s chosen to join us, and we can’t wait to get to work.”
Schumacher will drive the No. 47 Honda alongside teammates Graham Rahal and 2025 Rookie of the Year Louis Foster.
2026 IndyCar Season Kickoff
The 17-race 2026 IndyCar season begins with the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Florida, on March 1, 2026, marking an exciting new chapter for Schumacher as he transitions from F1 and endurance racing to the high-octane world of IndyCar.
