Frank Onyeka addressing Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 expectations
Victor Osimhen was forced off at half-time during Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against DR Congo, as the Super Eagles fell short in the penalty shoot-out and failed to secure a spot in the tournament for the second consecutive edition.
The Galatasaray striker had led the team through the first half but signalled discomfort, prompting his substitution. His absence was deeply felt as Nigeria struggled to convert their chances and eventually lost 4-3 on penalties.
Following the match, Osimhen flew back to Turkey for a detailed medical assessment, which will include an MRI scan to determine the severity of his injury. Upon arrival, the forward offered some reassurance to fans and the press.
“My condition is not very serious,” he told A Spor, suggesting the issue may be minor.
The results of the upcoming scan will provide clarity on the extent of the injury and guide Galatasaray on when he can return to action.
Osimhen has been pivotal for Galatasaray this season, leading their attack with remarkable form. The 25-year-old has already scored nine goals in just 12 appearances across all competitions, underlining his value to the Istanbul giants.
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the World Cup is a major blow, but Osimhen’s fitness remains a key focus for both club and country. Fans will be hoping for a swift recovery so that the striker can continue his stellar season in Turkey.
