Achraf Hakimi Wins 2025 CAF Men’s Player Of The Year Award
For the first time in two years, the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award goes to a non-Nigerian, as Morocco international Achraf Hakimi claims the 2025 prize. The Paris Saint-Germain star narrowly edged out Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and last year’s winner, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
Hakimi, 27, has enjoyed a phenomenal season with PSG, playing a crucial role in the club’s historic treble-winning campaign. His performances at right back were instrumental both defensively and offensively, contributing to victories in domestic league and cup competitions, as well as the Champions League.
The Moroccan international’s consistency, technical ability, and attacking threat from the flanks have set him apart as one of the finest defenders in world football. His ability to combine defensive solidity with rapid transitions and key assists made him a standout performer throughout the season.
Hakimi’s award also marks a significant moment for African football, as he becomes the latest Moroccan to achieve CAF’s highest individual honour, highlighting the growing influence of North African talent on the global stage.
While Salah and Osimhen delivered remarkable campaigns for Liverpool and Galatasaray respectively, it was Hakimi’s all-around impact and role in PSG’s historic treble that ultimately won over the CAF voters.
This accolade cements Hakimi’s status as one of Africa’s most exciting talents, and a player to watch in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup.
