Clinton Morrison Claims Cristiano Ronaldo Will Be Unhappy Without World Cup Glory

Former Premier League forward Clinton Morrison has questioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent remarks about the World Cup, insisting that the 40-year-old would be unhappy if he fails to lift the trophy, particularly as his long-time rival Lionel Messi has done.

Ronaldo, currently at Al Nassr, discussed the Mundial in a recent interview with Piers Morgan, claiming that his legacy should not be judged solely on whether Portugal wins the tournament. He referenced Argentina’s World Cup triumphs with Messi and highlighted Portugal’s historical lack of success at the competition.

Morrison Responds

Morrison, speaking to media via Goal, disagreed with Ronaldo’s assessment, emphasizing that the Portuguese legend is driven by the desire to win everything.

“He will be fussed; Ronaldo will be fussed! Ronaldo wants to win everything,” Morrison said. “That is why he is one of the GOATs with Messi, and why they are always battling each other. Everyone wants to win the World Cup. Every individual growing up, you want to win the World Cup — that’s what you dream of when watching it on TV. He will want to win the World Cup.”

Morrison also acknowledged the difficulty of Portugal’s path, given the strength of other top teams, but stressed that Ronaldo has the talent and ambition to go all the way. “Maybe it was a tongue-in-cheek answer. Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic player and it would probably complete everything he has done in the game if he did go on to win the World Cup.”

Regardless of the outcome, Morrison concluded that Ronaldo’s place among football’s greatest is secure: “Whether he wins it or doesn’t win it, he will still go down as one of the best players ever to play the game.”
