Tottenham players walking off the pitch disappointed after home defeat to Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur’s turbulent run of form shows no sign of easing, as they suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at home on Saturday.
The loss — their second in a row — drew loud boos from the frustrated home crowd, who watched their side struggle to create chances and show composure in front of goal.
After the final whistle, manager Frank made his way onto the pitch to acknowledge the fans and rally his players. However, what followed added to the tension — stand-in captain Micky van de Ven and full-back Djed Spence appeared to ignore their manager’s extended hand, walking straight down the tunnel instead.
Cameras caught Frank watching them leave, his expression unreadable. When asked about the incident, though, he refused to stir controversy.
“All the players are of course frustrated,” Frank said. “They would like to do well, they would like to win, they would like to perform well, so I understand that.”
He added that consistency was key, especially in tough times:
“It’s difficult to be consistent in good times and in bad times. That’s why I went around to the fans as I did. It’s more fun when we win, I can tell you that.”
When pressed about whether his players’ behavior was acceptable, the Spurs boss downplayed the situation.
“I think that is one of the small issues. We have Micky and Djed who are doing everything they can. They have performed very well so far this season, and everyone is frustrated. We do things in a different way, so I don’t think it’s a big problem.”
On the pitch, Tottenham’s display was far from convincing. The team managed just one shot on target the entire game, and their six corners failed to cause any real threat. Both Van de Ven and Spence were partly involved in the build-up to Joao Pedro’s decisive first-half goal, which proved enough for Chelsea to claim all three points.
The defeat continues a worrying trend for Spurs at home. They’ve now won just three of their last 19 Premier League matches at their stadium — a statistic that has left fans increasingly restless.
As the pressure mounts, Frank will need to find a way to reignite his side’s confidence and restore belief among supporters who are quickly losing patience.
