Vincent Kompany Hails Koln Teen Sensation Said El Mala Ahead Of Bayern Munich Clash
Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has showered praise on Koln’s teenage sensation Said El Mala, describing the 19-year-old as one of the most exciting young talents in Germany ahead of their DFB-Pokal showdown.
El Mala has been turning heads this season with his electric pace, technical skill, and confidence beyond his years. Already attracting attention from European giants like Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich, the young midfielder has quickly become one of the most talked-about prospects in the Bundesliga.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s midweek cup clash with Koln, Kompany didn’t hold back his admiration.
“This kid has this initial acceleration and then a second burst of speed. That surprises many defenders,” Kompany said. “He can shoot from that high speed. That ability to go from calm to explosive is something you can use your entire career.”
The former Manchester City captain, known for his keen eye for player development, also praised El Mala’s intelligence and potential, while hinting that the young midfielder could be a name to watch for the future.
“It’s great for him and Lennart Karl that they can still improve so much,” Kompany added with a smile. “That’s good for Bayern and Cologne—I just hope it’s better for Bayern.”
Reports suggest Brighton had an earlier €20 million bid rejected for El Mala, and with top clubs circling, it’s clear his stock is rising fast.
Bayern In Red-Hot Form But Stay Wary Of Koln Threat
Kompany’s Bayern Munich are currently enjoying a perfect start to the 2025/26 season, winning every competitive game so far. Despite injuries to key stars like Jamal Musiala and Manuel Neuer, the Bavarians remain dominant, showing the depth and adaptability that has come to define Kompany’s reign.
However, the manager isn’t taking Koln lightly.
“Koln play with great commitment, they close down spaces quickly. They are incredibly dangerous on the counter-attack, which has hurt many teams,” Kompany warned. “But we are doing a lot of things right at the moment.”
Koln, meanwhile, are desperate to turn their season around. They haven’t beaten Bayern since 2011, but with El Mala in inspired form, the Billy Goats will be hoping for a major cup upset.
Regardless of the result, one thing is certain — Said El Mala has arrived on the big stage, and Europe’s elite are watching closely.
