Nigeria Unveils 10-Man Squad For 2025 ITTF African Championships
Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has officially announced its 10-player squad for the 2025 ITTF African Championships, set to take place from October 12 to 19 in Tunis, Tunisia.
This year’s tournament is particularly special as it doubles as the qualifier for the historic 2026 ITTF World Team Championships in London, marking 100 years since the first edition was staged in the same city in 1926.
Nigeria’s Men’s Squad: Power And Experience
Africa’s number one, Quadri Aruna, leads the men’s division alongside 2019 African Games gold medalist Olajide Omotayo, and two-time West African champion Matthew Kuti. Rising star Taiwo Mati and emerging young talent Abdulbasit Abdulfatai complete the five-man line-up, bringing a balance of experience and youthful energy.
Women’s Squad: Youth And Leadership
On the women’s side, veteran Ajoke Ojomu will captain the squad. She is joined by four promising youngsters—Favour Ojo, Aishat Rabiu, Kabirat Ayoola, and Sukurat Aiyelabegan—all of whom are eager to make their mark on the continental stage.
Strong Competition Awaits
Nigeria is expected to be one of the leading contenders, especially with traditional rivals Egypt also fielding a powerful team. Other challengers include host nation Tunisia, Algeria, South Africa, Cameroon, and several other top African nations.
With London 2026 qualification on the line, the Tunis showdown promises to be fiercely competitive. Nigeria will be aiming not just for medals but for a historic ticket to the World Championships’ centenary edition.
