Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona Loan: Deco Clears The Air On Transfer Clause Controversy
Barcelona’s summer loan signing of Marcus Rashford raised plenty of eyebrows—and even more rumors. But now, club sporting director Deco has put speculation to rest, confirming that the Catalan giants will not be financially penalized if they choose not to sign the England international permanently next summer.
Despite reports suggesting that Barça could face pressure to activate a buy clause, Deco insists the deal is straightforward: a one-season loan with an optional £26 million (€30m/$35m) buy clause, and no strings attached.
“He’s on a simple loan, there’s no penalty, and if we want him, we have an option to buy,” Deco told Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona’s Financial Flexibility In A Tight Market
With Barça’s financial issues continuing to limit their freedom in the transfer market, the club had initially targeted more expensive options like Nico Williams and Luis Díaz. When both deals fell through—Williams remained at Athletic Club while Díaz joined Bayern Munich—Marcus Rashford became Plan C… and it’s already looking like a masterstroke.
The Manchester United forward has started the 2025–26 season on fire, delivering goals, assists, and versatility for new head coach Hansi Flick.
