Barcelona Legend Sergio Busquets Announces Retirement After MLS Season With Inter Miami

Legendary Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the end of the current Major League Soccer season, bringing the curtain down on a career that spanned nearly two decades.

Emotional Farewell

In the early hours of the morning, Busquets shared an emotional video on social media, reflecting on his incredible journey.

“Hello everyone, I feel like the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional football player. Football has given me unique experiences in wonderful places with the best travel companions. I retire happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful.”

Busquets thanked Barcelona for helping him fulfill his childhood dreams, the Spanish national team for countless unforgettable moments, and Inter Miami for allowing him to experience football in a new country. He also expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, coaching staff, fans worldwide, and his family, calling them “the pillars of my life.”

A Legendary Career

Promoted to Barcelona’s first team by Pep Guardiola in 2008, Busquets quickly became the heartbeat of the team, starting in the 2009 Champions League triumph over Manchester United. Over his career, he amassed 34 major trophies, including:

  • 10 league titles (9 in LaLiga, 1 MLS Supporters Shield)

  • 7 Copa del Reys

  • 7 Supercopa de España

  • 3 UEFA Super Cups

  • 3 Club World Cups

  • 1 Leagues Cup

On the international stage, Busquets was equally successful, winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Euro 2012, and captaining Spain to a silver medal in the 2020/21 Nations League.

Legacy Beyond Trophies

Busquets was the ultimate single-pivot midfielder, embodying Barcelona’s tiki-taka philosophy for 15 years. His vision, intelligence, and composure on the ball made him one of the most respected midfielders of his generation. As he heads toward retirement, fans worldwide will remember his elegance, leadership, and unwavering professionalism on and off the pitch.

Sergio Busquets’ departure marks the end of an era in football, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire future generations of players.
