Lionesses Star Toone Announces Engagement To Partner Bunney
England Lioness sensation Ella Toone has announced her engagement, revealing the romantic proposal on her Instagram account. The 25-year-old, who was amongst the standout performers during the Euros that saw Sarina Wiegman’s squad triumph over Spain in a penalty shootout, now has another reason to celebrate.
Following three years together, she has become engaged to Joe Bunney during a magical moment in Ibiza. The footballer penned in her social media post: “Forever … 04/08/25.”
She posted photographs of the unforgettable occasion, capturing her new fiance dropping to one knee for the proposal.
The romantic gesture unfolded beside the sea, complete with a heart-shaped floral display featuring illuminated text asking ‘Will you marry me?’
Ella appeared radiant wearing a knitted cream outfit whilst her partner opted for a white shirt paired with linen trousers for the memorable occasion.
A bench and small table were arranged for their celebration drinks. Additionally, a platter containing fruit and nibbles was prepared so the pair could savour the scenery.
Joe’s four year old son Arlo accompanied the couple, clutching a red rose and appearing delighted about the engagement.
Ella’s famous friends flocked to the comments to offer their congratulations.
Dame Kelly Holmes wrote: “Congratulations,” whilst fellow Lioness Chloe Kelly shared: “Wow so perfect girl, wishing you both all the happiness in the world.”
Carly Telford expressed: “Congrats guys xxx,” and Tanya Bardsley exclaimed: “O my goddd, congratulations.”
Ashley Hodson commented: “Congrats guys,” while Keira Walsh posted: “Woooo congrats buzzing for you both.”
Ella’s fiance, a non-league footballer for Stalybridge Celtic and father to a son from a previous relationship, is a fervent Manchester City supporter, despite Ella’s allegiance to rival team Manchester United.
Bunney, 31, spent the majority of his career in the Football League with north west clubs Stockport, Rochdale, Blackpool, Bolton and Macclesfield.
Bunney shared a series of photos from the final and subsequent celebrations on Instagram. One image showed him grinning next to Ella as they held the Euro Cup, while another captured a moment with the footballer shortly after their victory.
In his Instagram post, he captioned the images: “BACK 2 BACK! .. This team just continues to produce! @lionesses.”
In a video featuring Ella on his Instagram page, he affectionately said: “Words don’t describe how proud I am of you.”
