Victor Osimhen Explains Galatasaray Move: “My Daughter Made It Home
After months of speculation linking him to Europe’s elite and Saudi Arabia’s riches, Victor Osimhen has finally put pen to paper — signing a permanent deal with Turkish giants Galatasaray in a move that has stunned the footballing world.
Galatasaray confirmed the transfer on Thursday, with the €75 million fee setting a new all-time Turkish record, signaling a statement of intent from the Istanbul club and the Süper Lig at large.

Turning Down Giants for Gala
Osimhen’s name has consistently featured in top-tier transfer gossip. From Chelsea and Manchester United in England, to Juventus in Italy and Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, the Super Eagles striker was courted by some of the biggest clubs globally. But it was Galatasaray who ultimately won the race — not through money or prestige, but through family and connection.
Unveiled at a packed Rams Park before Gala’s pre-season clash with Lazio, the 27-year-old addressed the fans directly, explaining the emotional pull behind his decision:
It’s a decision I made earlier than expected. But to an extent, I already associate with Galatasaray fans.”
“My daughter is more inclined to Galatasaray than me. I’ve seen how she associates herself with her Turkish friends; she speaks of me every time and the club. Apart from the fans that drove me with the love and passion they have for the club, my daughter was key to making this decision much easier for me. All my family love Gala. So I can’t see a reason not to be here.”
“That’s why I call it home. I will enjoy myself till I’m not needed here.”
A Star Returns — Permanently
The move comes after a highly successful loan spell last season, during which Osimhen scored 37 goals and registered 8 assists across all competitions, powering Galatasaray to a league title and cementing his place as a fan favorite.
While the permanent transfer surprised many in the European football landscape, those close to the club saw it coming. Osimhen’s rapport with fans, teammates, and local culture quickly turned his stay into something more meaningful.

Galatasaray Go Big
The €75 million fee not only shatters the previous Süper Lig transfer record, but also underscores Galatasaray’s determination to compete on the continental stage. With Champions League ambitions, the Turkish side is betting on Osimhen’s talent, leadership, and connection with the supporters to deliver silverware beyond domestic borders.
What This Means for African Football
Osimhen’s choice reflects a new narrative for African superstars — prioritizing personal connections and legacy over commercial spotlight. In a sport often dictated by money and marketability, the Nigerian striker has reminded the football world of something deeper: the power of family, loyalty, and belonging.
