Roma have entered the race to sign Argentine left-back Nicolas Tagliafico from Lyon, after the French side were relegated to Ligue 2 over their finances.
Tagliafico, 32, has a contract with the French side expiring at the end of June and according to the latest reports from Argentine news outlet TycSports, Roma have emerged alongside Sevilla as favourites to sign the defender.
The reports suggest that despite interest from clubs in his home country, with Independiente enquiring into his availability, the player wishes to remain playing in Europe.
Tagliafico to Roma? All the variables…
There are a lot of external factors that may influence this transfer. Lyon’s relegation to Ligue 2 came as a surprise to many but the club are planning to appeal the decision.
The reports from Argentina indicate that despite their relegation, Lyon are planning to offer Tagliafico a fresh contract – although it is unknown as to how much their current off-the-pitch troubles will impact this.
If he does not stay at Lyon, Roma could identify a true bargain, acquiring an experienced and talented defender for no cost.
