Report: Valencia Make Transfer Decision On Sadiq
Spanish La Liga club Valencia are unwilling to pay Real Sociedad €9 million for the services of Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar this summer, according to Soccernet.ng.
Sadiq has enjoyed a brilliant comeback since the turn of the year when he left Real Sociedad for Valencia in a six-month loan deal. Before the start of the year, he had struggled to make a mark at Txuri-Urdin in the past two seasons.
The Super Eagles star suffered a nasty anterior cruciate ligament injury, and that caused his form to plummet badly.
But since he joined Valencia, he has contributed six goals in 17 appearances for the club, prompting talks that he could stay at the club beyond the end of the current season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Valencia paid Real Sociedad a fixed €500k for Sadiq in January. But there are other variables in the deal that have seen Los Ches pay an extra €1 million - €500k for Valencia avoiding relegation and €500k if he stays fit for 60% of their LaLiga games.
There was also a purchase clause in the deal that Valencia would pay Real Sociedad €9 million to sign Sadiq permanently.
But in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Los Ches are unwilling to pay that fee. They want to beat that price down before a deal can happen.
What next for Sadiq Umar?
With what Sadiq Umar has shown this season, there is definitely still a player there. A return to Real Sociedad might not be bad, as coach Imanol Alguacil is leaving the club at the end of the season. With a new coach set to arrive in the summer, Sadiq could get more game time.
However, the 28-year-old striker has rediscovered his form at Valencia. This means that the environment at the club suits him well. As such, he might experience a dip in form if he leaves.
There have also been talks linking him with a move to Qatar. For a player nearing his 30s, a money move cannot be ruled out.
