Arteta vows Arsenal will fight hard in Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed determination ahead of his team’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg clash against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday.
The Gunners face an uphill battle after losing 2-0 in the first leg at the Emirates. However, Arteta remains optimistic, drawing confidence from their recent impressive victory over Manchester City.
“The next step is a final at Wembley, so we know how big that is,” Arteta said during his press conference on Tuesday. “The boost from the game against City, the manner we won it, and the fact that this is the competition where we are closest to a final — we’re going to give it a real go.”
Acknowledging the challenge posed by Newcastle, Arteta praised their strength but remained confident.
“They are a very difficult team to play against. We’ve had different games against them. We beat them at home last year in a good way, but this season has been different.
“It’s another big opportunity that can take us to Wembley, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Reflecting on Arsenal’s history in the League Cup, which they last won in 1993, Arteta added:
“In domestic cups, we have an unbelievable record, but historically the League Cup has been difficult. It’s a good opportunity to make history again.”
The Gunners will need a spirited performance to overturn the deficit and book their place at Wembley.
