Steven Gerrard set to part ways with Al Ettifaq amid struggles

Al Ettifaq is preparing to part ways with manager Steven Gerrard as the team finds itself just five points clear of the relegation zone. The Saudi Pro League side currently sits 12th in the table, having won only five of their 17 league matches this season.

Despite earning £15.2 million per year, Gerrard’s team has managed just one victory since the beginning of the year. Their most recent match ended in a 2-2 draw against Al Wehda FC, who are second from the bottom of the table.

According to *Marca*, Gerrard has formally requested to resign, with his submission now under review by the Financial Sustainability Committee of the Saudi Arabian top-flight. Local publication *Al-Youm* reports that compensation terms for the 44-year-old are yet to be finalized.

In what is expected to be his final press conference, Gerrard expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s recent performances. “I am not satisfied with the players’ performance and levels. I see the draw as losing two important points,” he told RecordSport.

“I take responsibility for the result of the match, including missed opportunities and the drop in performance. The management of Al Ettifaq has provided everything the team needs in terms of support and transfers. Injuries and the absence of key players have negatively affected performance.”
