Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has officially joined Greek giants Olympiacos in a €2.5 million transfer from Portuguese club Boavista.
The 25-year-old left-back signed a four-year contract with the Red and Whites to become the club’s third signing of the summer after Horta and Betancourt.
In his first words as an Olympiacos player, Onyemaechi expressed his excitement and ambition. Speaking in a video shared by the club, he said:
“First of all, I’m really happy to be here. When I first told my family about it, they all accepted it. Now I’m looking forward to it and hope to see the supporters in the stadium.”
Currently, Olympiacos tops the Super League table in Greece and sit 12th in the Europa League-League phase. Onyemaechi weighed in on his decision to join Olympiacos, citing the enticement of European competition.
“I looked at the possibilities of playing in Europe; this is what drove me more to be here, and I’m really happy to be here,” he said.
Known for his speed and defensive ability, Onyemaechi described his playing style. “I’m a fast player. When the team has the ball, I am ready to help the team in attack and defence,” he added.
The Nigerian international shared his excitement about playing in front of the passionate Olympiacos fans, which referred to as a dream for any player.
“It’s something that every player dreams of—to be able to play in this kind of atmosphere. So, I’m really happy to feel it and see how the supporters will react.”
Onyemaechi later took to his social media page to celebrate the move, writing: “New home. God is the greatest.”
The Owerri-born player made 77 appearances for Boavista, scoring five goals, and delivering three assists. With this, he will be aiming to build on his previous achievements.
