Don’t join Arsenal, Henry warns Osimhen

Published

on

Barcelona and Arsenal legend, Theirry Henry, has tasked Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, to be more consistent in scoring but urged the forward not to join Arsenal if he eventually made the move to the English Premier League.

The Frenchman stated this after Osimhen;s goal against Barcelona in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first-leg clash in Naples kept the Partenopei in the tie.

The Nigerian striker drew Napoli level at 1-1 with his only attempt on goal in the encounter 15 minutes after Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock on the hour mark.

The goal was his first in as many games since rejoining Napoli after playing for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in December.

It was also his sixth in six Champions League games for the Partenopei at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

He now sits behind Erling Haaland (12) and Kylian Mbappe (nine) for recent home goals scored in the competition over the last two seasons.

Furthermore, his goal against Barcelona saw him tie Napoli captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, and Lorenzo Insigne for goals scored in the Champions League with Napoli, and sits just behind Dries Mertens, who netted 11 in Europe’s premier club competition.

Speaking with CBS Sports Golazo, the French U-21 coach challenged the 25-year-old to prove himself outside of the Italian Serie A where he won the Scudetto and won the Capocannoniere.

“I think he needed the goal today (on Wednesday),” Henry said on the UEFA Champions League show with CBS Sports Golazo.

“At the AFCON, we saw him, he can lead the line, run into the channels, and he has excellent hold-up play.

“How good can he be? He showed last year what he could do and won the African Player of The Year along the way, winning the Scudetto with Napoli and getting to the final with Nigeria.”

Henry, a Champions League winner with Barcelona in 2009, urged the Nigerian to prove himself in other European leagues.

The 25-year-old has been linked with moves to Chelsea and PSG but Henry warned against a switch to Arsenal.

“I’d like to see him now, what he can do in the Premier League or wherever he’s going or Paris Saint-Germain. Not Arsenal, I won’t go there.

“I want to see him take the next step and be more consistent with his output, but to be able to win the title with Napoli the way he did will stay in history forever, so all the best to him in his career.”

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Newcastle are the clubs most heavily involved in purchasing Everton’s Amadou Onana, FootballTransfers

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Newcastle are the clubs most heavily involved in purchasing Everton’s Amadou Onana, FootballTransfers has been told.

The 22-year-old midfielder has caught the eye of some elite clubs during his time at Goodison Park, and while other clubs have been linked, we understand it’s those three who have done the most legwork in sealing his signature.

Both Arsenal and Bayern are looking to bolster their midfield while the Magpies are hopeful of concluding a deal with the same club that saw star man Antony Gordon make the move in January of last year.

Onana joined Everton in 2022 from Lille in what was a £32 million deal. He has since played 69 games for the Toffees since then, becoming a key member of Sean Dyche’s setup.

Manchester United remain in talks over a move for Jarrad Branthwaite, Everton’s centre-back. Sources have told us that it won’t be smooth sailing for the Red Devils as Real Madrid are keen on the Everton defender, while Man City and Newcastle have registered an interest too.

As previously reported, Everton will ask for around £75 million for the youngster in the upcoming window, though there is an idea that an initial £65m will be enough for Man Utd if add-ons make up the rest of Everton’s valuation.

Everton’s situation around the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations means that they are likely to sell the player, who is one of their biggest assets.

Transfer: Trabzonspor keen to extend Onuachu’s loan for another season

Trabzonspor want to take Southampton forward Paul Onuachu on loan for another season.

Onuachu joined the Turkish Super Lig side on a season-long loan last summer.

The Nigeria international has registered nine goals and three assists in 17 league appearances for Trabzonspor.

The Black Sea Storm are keen to sign the striker permanently but cannot meet up with Southampton’s €15 million valuation.

According to a report in Transfermarkt, Trabzonspor president, Ertugrul Dogan is pushing hard to have Onuachu at the club at least for another season.

A return to Southampton is highly unlikely for the lanky hitman, who struggled to establish himself during his six-month stay at the club.
