GENNARO GATTUSO SACKED BY MARSEILLE AFTER DISMAL START TO 2024, JEAN-LOUIS GASSET STEPS IN

Gennaro Gattuso was brought in to try and stabilise things a bit at Marseille. However, whilst there were some shoots of encouragement, things have taken a turn for the worse – and with the club languishing outside of the European places, Marseille have made their move to try and salvage their season.

Marseille have fired Gennaro Gattuso after failing to win a league match in 2024, with the south-coast club appointing Jean-Louis Gasset as interim manager.
The developments come after Marseille were beaten 1-0 by Ligue 1 surprise package Brest on Sunday.
Gattuso, 46, was hired by Marseille in September after previous incumbent Marcelinho stepped down just three months into his tenure for personal reasons.

“Olympique de Marseille announces the end of its collaboration with Gennaro Gattuso,” Marseille said in a statement.
“Marseille would like to extend its special thanks to Gennaro and his entire staff for the unfailing commitment and professionalism they have shown on a daily basis, and wishes them all the best for the future.”

Gasset was sacked by the Ivory Coast during their triumphant Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Gattuso led the club into the play-off round of the Europa League but the club have struggled recently. Their only win in 2024 came in the Coupe de France when they scraped past fifth-tier side US Thionville Lusitanos 1-0. Their last Ligue 1 win came on December 17 against Clermont Foot.
Their poor form has seen them drop to ninth in the table. They are eight points back from Monaco, who occupy the final European spot in fifth, and a further point off Nice who sit in the third Champions League spot.
Gasset will be Marseille’s fifth manager in the past three years with Jorge Sampaoli, Igor Tudor, Marcelinho and now Gattuso struggling to stay long-term on the French south coast.

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Newcastle are the clubs most heavily involved in purchasing Everton’s Amadou Onana, FootballTransfers

Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Newcastle are the clubs most heavily involved in purchasing Everton’s Amadou Onana, FootballTransfers has been told.

The 22-year-old midfielder has caught the eye of some elite clubs during his time at Goodison Park, and while other clubs have been linked, we understand it’s those three who have done the most legwork in sealing his signature.

Both Arsenal and Bayern are looking to bolster their midfield while the Magpies are hopeful of concluding a deal with the same club that saw star man Antony Gordon make the move in January of last year.

Onana joined Everton in 2022 from Lille in what was a £32 million deal. He has since played 69 games for the Toffees since then, becoming a key member of Sean Dyche’s setup.

Manchester United remain in talks over a move for Jarrad Branthwaite, Everton’s centre-back. Sources have told us that it won’t be smooth sailing for the Red Devils as Real Madrid are keen on the Everton defender, while Man City and Newcastle have registered an interest too.

As previously reported, Everton will ask for around £75 million for the youngster in the upcoming window, though there is an idea that an initial £65m will be enough for Man Utd if add-ons make up the rest of Everton’s valuation.

Everton’s situation around the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations means that they are likely to sell the player, who is one of their biggest assets.

Transfer: Trabzonspor keen to extend Onuachu’s loan for another season

Trabzonspor want to take Southampton forward Paul Onuachu on loan for another season.

Onuachu joined the Turkish Super Lig side on a season-long loan last summer.

The Nigeria international has registered nine goals and three assists in 17 league appearances for Trabzonspor.

The Black Sea Storm are keen to sign the striker permanently but cannot meet up with Southampton’s €15 million valuation.

According to a report in Transfermarkt, Trabzonspor president, Ertugrul Dogan is pushing hard to have Onuachu at the club at least for another season.

A return to Southampton is highly unlikely for the lanky hitman, who struggled to establish himself during his six-month stay at the club.
