NFSC Condemns Gunmen Attack On Sunshine Stars
Nigeria and Africa’s foremost football fans group, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), has condemned the shocking attack by unknown gunmen on NPFL side Sunshine Stars of Akure, who were returning from a week 13 NPFL game against Bendel Insurance of Benin, along the Ore-Benin Expressway.
In a press statement signed by the National Chairman of NFSC, Ambassador (Rev). Samuel Ikpea, that also empathises with the players and officials of the team, the NFSC, it described the unfortunate incident as painful, disgraceful and dangerous to the development of Nigerian football.
“Firstly, we join all football fans in Nigeria and all over the world to condemn this dastardly act on Sunshine Stars players and officials by some unknown gunmen. This act is highly condemnable and quiet inimical to growing love for our local football league,” Ikpea said.
The awards-winning NFSC boss also noted that its very regrettable that local teams travel long distances across the country to prosecute matches on bad roads and with its attendant dangers.
“This unfortunate incident further attests to the needs to take the welfare and security of the teams participating in all the local leagues seriously. The football authorities, particularly, the male and female football league bodies should take this security and safety issues as a top priority, for the benefits of Nigerian football”, he added.
