MTN Vows More Support For Nigeria’s Super Falcons

Published

Official telecoms partner of the Nigeria Football Federation, MTN has pledged to keep supporting and appreciating the senior women national team, Super Falcons as the fabulous ladies continue to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

At a reception in honour of the nine-time African champions, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Thursday night, Adia Sowho, who is the telecom behemoth’s chief marketing officer, hailed the team for its consistency and sterling on-field and off-field attributes, saying they do so much to bring honour to Nigeria every now and then.

Sowho regaled the auditorium with the various feats of the elegant Falcons, and stated that MTN remains proud of its identity with the team. She challenged them to keep winning and soaring, assuring that MTN will be with them all the way.

Sports Development Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh noted that the Falcons have been giving Nigerians joy and urged MTN to continue to support the team as it undertakes greater tasks and seeks to climb higher hurdles.

President of NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, described MTN as “one of our biggest partners” and praised the company for its consistency in support of football. “The Super Falcons are the most successful national team and they deserve all the accolades. In their last two matches, they have scored nine goals to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. I believe they will go to Cape Verde and finish the job brilliantly, and we also have confidence in them to earn the Olympic ticket this time, after our country missed the last three Women Olympic Football Tournaments.

“Last year, they could not even make the podium at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. But they put that adversity behind them and rose to impress the world at the FIFA World Cup. I believe they are ready for the challenge of reclaiming the African title in the same North African country next year.”

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi thanked MTN for its support for various levels of football, and assured that the Super Falcons have the mettle to overcome upcoming on-field challenges and perhaps dazzle better at the Olympics in Paris than they did at the World Cup in Down Under.

The company afterwards presented gifts to the players and their officials.

MTN’s team also included Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru (Director); Idowu Adesokan (GM, Consumer Marketing); Osaze Ebuaku (Senior Manager, Go-t-Market) and Anas Galadima (Senior Manager, Public Affairs).

Also in NFF’s team were Sharif Rabiu Inuwa (Chairman, Marketing Committee); Babatunde Akinsanya (Director of Finance); Ademola Olajire (Director of Communications); Ruth David (Ag. Director of Competitions); Dayo Enebi Achor (Head of International) and; Alizor Chuks (Head of Marketing and Sponsorship).

Manchester United have described plans to regenerate the Wharfside area around Old Trafford as “tremendously exciting”, with the club viewing this development as potentially having synergy with their own plans regarding the stadium.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the incoming 25% owner, is intent on either building a new ground for United on the same land or revamping the current site. The plans to regenerate the wider area, a Trafford Council initiative, were backed by Collette Roche, United’s chief operating officer. “This vision for Trafford Wharfside is tremendously exciting and we are proud to be supporting Trafford Council with their ambitious plans for an area with such huge potential,” she said.

“We will continue to work closely with the council, and other local stakeholders, on how any future development work at Old Trafford can complement their vision and, most importantly, benefit the local community.”

The vision is for five districts, one of which would be the Stadium District, described in the council statement as the “Manchester United area”. Liz Patel, the council’s executive member for economy and regeneration, said: “The Trafford Wharfside master plan offers a regeneration vision for a hugely important area within Trafford. This area takes in the world-famous sporting institution that is Manchester United as well as other major sites including the Imperial War Museum and the Manchester Ship Canal.

“Working with our partners and private developers, we will be looking to create new homes, new neighbourhoods and help create a world-class setting for the Manchester United stadium.”

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and tech behemoth Google have signed a multi-year collaboration, with Google Pixel becoming the league’s official mobile phone partner.

As part of the agreement, Google Pixel has also been named the NWSL playoff and championship’s presenting sponsor.

The partnership also includes the Pitchside with Pixel initiative, which focuses on Google’s AI-powered camera technology. The program intends to provide fans with exclusive behind-the-scenes information, including clips from tunnels, sidelines, and press conferences, which will be aired live on NWSL and Google’s linear, digital, and social channels.

Furthermore, a competition for the US-based supporters of the professional women’s soccer league will be sponsored and run by Google. Fourteen winners will have the opportunity to participate in the Pitchside with Pixel initiative at a regular-season match.

The arrangement was negotiated by the marketing firm Allied Sports and NWSL’s commercial partnerships strategy team.

NWSL Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Julie Haddon, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Google, a global leader in groundbreaking innovation and connectivity, to the NWSL family as our postseason and LCC content sponsor. As we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in sports, we are constantly exploring new and dynamic ways to connect fans with the NWSL and our remarkable athletes, especially around the league’s most iconic moments that may not be captured on broadcast or streaming platforms.

Kate Johnson, Director of global sports, media, and entertainment marketing partnerships at Google, said, “Google remains committed to increasing visibility, coverage, and engagement in women’s sports, and our partnership with the NWSL is a significant milestone in our ongoing journey.”
