NSF President, Toke Aka To head Main Organizing Committee for West Africa Scrabble Championship
The President of Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), Engineer Toke Aka is to serve as the head of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship (WASC) taking place in Nigeria.
The secretary of Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Mrs. Ejiro Thukson IV said Chukwudi Ehibudu, was named as Chairman of the Marketing and Sponsorship Sub Committee of the Championship which will have about 80 players from five countries in attendance. The Marketing Sub Committee is expected to source for the 50 million naira needed to stage a hitch-free event.
John Curtis, the Technical Director of NSF, is the Chairman technical and tournament director while Mayowa Aliyu the Chairman of Kwara State Scrabble Association (KSSA), heads the Protocol and Entertainment Sub Committee.
A seasoned journalist, Maxwell Kumoye is the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub Committee of the Championship, and he will be associated with Mishael Emmanuel and Dotun Omisakin.
Ejiro Thukson IV, is in charge of the Secretariat of the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship which the Centre of Excellent and the City of Aquatic Splendor, Lagos be hosting from the 22nd to the 26th of November 2023.
Lagos got the nod ahead of Benin City and Abuja which were in contention to stage the biggest sub-regional scrabble tournament in Africa with five countries, namely Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and host Nigeria participating.
Each of the participating countries except host Nigeria will be presenting 15 players each while Nigeria will have 20 wordsmiths at the three days of gruelling competition.
Twelve thousand dollars has been set aside as prize money for the individual and team events of the championship.
