Principal Cup Championship Will Motivate Players To Become Football Coaches, Referees And Football Administrators, Says Ogboni Fouad Oki
The Chairman Lagos State Football Association,, LSFA, Ogboni Fouad Oki, has hailed the management team of Principal Cup Committee for deeming it necessary to revamp the old age football competition which has discovered former Nigeria’s greatest football stars.
According to the FA boss, the spirit of Catch Them Young, a football philosophy which the LSFA believed in, motivated the association to team up with the Principal Cup Committee, PCC, adding that the competition would give the youths an opportunity to add quality value to their academics and football career.
He was optimistic that the tournament would encourage some of the players to pick interest in becoming football coaches, football referees or football administrators, stressing that the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and the Ministry of Education had promised to give necessary support to make it a huge success.
“Former Nigeria’s internationals and the country’s football legends have benefited immensely from the Principal Cup.Some of them who played then got scholarship to abroad, while some were invited to the national teams and professional clubs because of their impressive performance at the principal Cup, said Oki.
“We are trying to bring the good old days back where Lagos Principal Cup Championship would be an avenue to discover talents for future national junior teams or professional clubs.I strongly believe that this commiittee would not only deliver but make this year’s edition a memorable and hitch free comoetition,”he said.
