NOC Begins Training For Directors of Sports In Nigerian Universities
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced plans to restart the conduct of a comprehensive training program for Directors of sports in Nigerian Universities.
This programme, which is a collaboration between the Olympic Movement, and the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA), began in 2019 to provide top-notch training for university athletes.
The Ibadan leg will run from 5-8 September.
”One of the primary objectives is to promote Olympism and instil the three core values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect among the athletes.
”We firmly believe that by involving the custodians of University athletes in this programme, we can better achieve these objectives.”
Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) said that in an evaluation of previous events, it became evident that the participation of university athletes’ custodians would be crucial, especially considering that a significant number of the National athletes come from universities.
He stated that in a bid to facilitate the training, the NOC will be conducting the seminars in four NUGA zones which have been scheduled as follows:
University of Ibadan – Sept. 5 to Sept. 8, 2023.
University of Abuja – Sept. 12 – Sept. 15, 2023.
Port Harcourt (IAUE) – Sept. 19 to Sept. 22, 2023.
Sule Lamido University Jigawa – Sept. 26 to Sept. 29, 2023.
According to him, the Committee encourages all Directors of Sports in Nigerian universities to take advantage of this opportunity and join the NOC in realizing their shared vision of excellence, friendship, and respect within Nigerian sports.
”Let us come together and make a lasting impact in the future of sports in our nation”, Nezianya said.
