Xavi confident of Barca getting past Napoli after ‘undeserved’ draw

Published

By

Xavi is optimistic of Barcelona reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League despite watching his dominant team held 1-1 at Napoli on Wednesday.

Barcelona were the better team for large parts of the game in Naples but return to Spain level after Victor Osimhen snatched a draw with the hosts’ only shot on target.

Xavi’s team, who scored through Robert Lewandowski, created more chances and were agonisingly close to getting a last-gasp win when Ilkay Gundogan’s low shot whizzed just wide.

“Playing like this we have a good chance of going through. We played well in attack and defence, and after the goal we created more chances,” Xavi told reporters.

“We deserved to win but this is the Champions League, if you give them a space then you can be punished.

“It’s a shame that the result didn’t reflect the play. But I’m satisfied because we applied what we have worked on. I’m proud of the image the squad gave of itself. We’re ready to compete in the return leg.”

New Napoli boss Francesco Calzona was also happy with the result of his first match, which was prepared hurriedly after becoming the Italian champions’ third manager of the season on Monday night.

“What I liked best was the desire to get back into the game. we need to work on tactical things, but I also got good responses from the substitutes so I’m happy,” said Calzona.

“We could have lost but we drew, and we even had a chance to win. So I’m pleased.”

“Playing against Barca is difficult for everyone but the draw keeps us in it. We want to go through because Napoli have to have that that ambition. It will be a difficult match for us.”

By

The National Football League (NFL) in the United States has gained global recognition over the past years, same time, attracting a diverse set of players who have their roots outside the United States.

Among the NFL’s players are players of Nigerian heritage who have made their mark on the league. This includes those who have competed in the prestigious Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the NFL.

One such athlete is Derrick Nnadi, a member of the Kansas City Chiefs team. Nnadi’s noteworthy performances in the Super Bowl, coupled with his significant contributions to the sport, have established him as a standout player.

His achievements have solidified his status as one of the most prominent Seminoles in Super Bowl history.

Early life

Derrick Nnadi was born on May 9, 1996, to Nigerian parents. He is a defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL).

Nnadi received his education at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before pursuing his college football career at Florida State University.

Throughout his tenure at Florida State, Nnadi showcased his talent in 44 games, amassing 75 solo tackles, 165 total tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks.

Notably, he contributed to the 2014 team’s triumph in the ACC Championship and their participation in the inaugural College Football Playoff (CFP).

Career in American football

Nnadi was a former defensive lineman, who recently celebrated his third Super Bowl victory with the Kansas City Chiefs, securing an overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 25-22.

Despite being sidelined due to a triceps injury, Nnadi showcased his prowess with 30 total tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss over 17 games during the 2023 season.

On March 20, 2022, Nnadi re-signed with the Chiefs, and he won his second Super Bowl when the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

He re-signed with the Chiefs on March 23, 2023, and secured his third Super Bowl victory when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

On the 11th week of the 2019 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, Nnadi intercepted Philip Rivers for his first career interception in a 24–17 win.

The Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl LIV over the San Francisco 49ers, marking their first championship in 50 years.

Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round with the 75th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Nnadi signed a four-year, $3.74 million contract on June 15, 2018, with a signing bonus of $959,400.

Derrick Nnadi had a unique way of marking his team’s victory at the Super Bowl – following their win against the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. His love for dogs made him pay all the adoption fees at a Kansas City dog shelter.

Achievements

Some of Nnamdi’s achievements include:

  • A record of 30 total tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss in the 2023 season.
  • Nnadi is regarded as one of the Chiefs’ best run defenders
  • Nnadi is now tied with J.T. Thomas for the most Super Bowl appearances among all Seminoles.

Gary O’Neil stance emerges on West Ham United switch amid David Moyes sack speculation

West Ham United would be unlikely to be able to convince Gary O’Neil to leave Wolves if they decide to sack David Moyes as manager, according to Dean Jones.

The Scotsman has come under increasing pressure at the London Stadium following the Hammers’ 6-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday (11 February) with supporters and pundits suggesting that Moyes should be sacked.

A number of names have already been linked with the position, including Graham Potter and O’Neil, but SportsLens’ Jones doesn’t believe the Wolves boss would be keen to leave Molineux despite appearing to fit the Hammers’ profile.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (14 February) he said: “I think West Ham are at a good level for Potter to go in at. I think it would probably be a pretty good fit, to be honest. So, I can see some positives around that. I think that would have also worked in a different moment for O’Neil.

“I’m not sure whether he’d leave Wolves right now. But in terms of the fit and what West Ham want to see, I can understand why they would want him to come in because he’s a young manager with signs of really understanding how the game is changing and how he can impose himself on big matches.”

Could Gary O’Neil replace David Moyes at West Ham?
Links with O’Neil make sense, considering the Wolves boss was a former Hammer while also impressing in the dugout at both Wolves and Bournemouth previously, but it doesn’t seem as though a move is likely to happen.

O’Neil has now settled at Molineux and has managed to build a strong side that is capable of challenging up the Premier League table, despite most fans writing them off as relegation candidates before a ball had even been kicked in the Premier League.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.
You can never say never in football and the opportunity to take over a side competing in the Europa League may be enough to tempt the Wolves boss into making the switch, but at this moment in time, such a move doesn’t appear too likely.

All of this speculation has come before Moyes has even been given his marching orders at West Ham and there is still a reasonable chance that the Hammers won’t even decide to part with the Scotsman, at least until the end of the season.

In other West Ham news, Chris Sutton has offered his verdict on Moyes’ position at the London Stadium
