Dortmund Motivated To Face Bayern Munich In Der Klassiker
Borussia Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin might be in his first season leading the team, but he is no stranger to this rivalry.
“Dortmund against Bayern is the biggest game in Germany. It’s the most watched game. When I was in Türkiye in the past few years everyone there watched the game as far as the Bundesliga is concerned. It’s a privilege for me to be able to experience it in this role. I had good and bad experiences as a player against Bayern. I’m looking forward to it,” said Sahin (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“The results are there (for Bayern Munich), the way they play football. You can see that he’s quickly having his influence on the team and that they’re a unit on the pitch. He did very good things in Anderlecht and Burnley and he’s now continuing on the same path. He’s a very good coach and was also a leader as a player. I’m happy for him.”
Sahin was among those who heard Uli Hoeneß “promise” that Bayern Munich would win the Bundesliga. That statement of grandeur does not affect Sahin, though.
“To be honest, I don’t need any statements made by other people to motivate my players. Our motivation comes from within. We have our ambitions that unfortunately we couldn’t always fulfill in the Bundesliga so far. I have big respect for Uli Hoeneß – I know how this game works with all the statements. I don’t want to be involved in that. It’s only to create headlines. My only focus is on winning tomorrow’s game, I don’t need any statements as motivation for that,” said Sahin.
One of the key showdowns in the match will be between the strikers — Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy. Sahin like his player as much as he respects Kane.
“Serhou is one of the best strikers around at the moment. I’m very happy he’s our striker. It’s not my job to compare Guirassy and Kane, but I wouldn’t swap Serhou for any other player in the world. That doesn’t mean Harry Kane has less quality. I’m a big fan of him,” said Sahin.
