Paul Pogba, Juventus Set To Part Ways

Published

on

Paul Pogba could become a free agent after opening talks with Juventus with a view to terminating his contract, a source has told ESPN.

Pogba has had a four-year ban for a doping offence reduced to 18 months after launching a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The midfielder can restart training in January 2025 and would be eligible to return to competitive action in March.

A source told ESPN that both Pogba and Juventus are open to the prospect of the Frenchman restarting his career elsewhere.

He has a contract with the Serie A club until June 2026, but a mutual agreement could see the deal end early, allowing the 31-year-old to sign with another club.

Pogba has only made 12 appearances for Juventus since returning following his departure from Manchester United as a free agent in 2022.

His last competitive appearance was as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 win over Empoli more than a year ago.

Pogba was provisionally suspended in September 2023 before being handed a four-year ban in February. He gave evidence at an appeal in the summer and last week was cleared to begin playing again early next year.

In a statement, CAS outlined their reasoning behind the reduction in Pogba’s ban: “The CAS Panel based its decision on the evidence and legal arguments made that Mr Pogba’s ingestion of DHEA, the substance for which he tested positive, was not intentional and was the result of erroneously taking a supplement prescribed to him by a medical doctor in Florida, after Mr Pogba had been given assurances that the medical doctor, who had claimed to treat several high level US and international athletes, was knowledgeable and would be mindful of Mr Pogba’s anti-doping obligations under the World Anti-Doping Code.

“Much of the evidence provided by Mr Pogba was unopposed. The CAS Panel determined, however, that Mr Pogba was not without fault and that, as a professional football player, he should have paid a greater care in the circumstances.”

A statement issued by Pogba on Friday read: “Finally the nightmare is over. I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again.

“I always stated that I never knowingly breached World Anti-Doping Agency regulations when I took a nutritional supplement prescribed to me by a doctor, which does not affect or enhance the performance of male athletes.

“I play with integrity and, although I must accept that this is a strict liability offence, I want to place on record my thanks to the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s judges who heard my explanation.

“This has been a hugely distressing period in my life because everything I have worked so hard for has been put on hold.”

Aston Villa Hero Against Bayern Munich, Duran Signs New Deal Until 2030

Published

on

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has signed a new deal at Villa Park to keep him at the club until 2030.

The 20-year-old moved to Villa Park in January 2023 in a £18m deal from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire, signing a five-and-a-half year deal until 2028.

The Colombian came close to leaving Villa in the summer after interest from Chelsea and West Ham.

But he remained in the Midlands and has scored six times so far this season, including in a 1-0 win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week.

Duran has scored winning goals against West Ham, Leicester and Everton in the Premier League so far this season.

The Colombia international was Emery’s second signing at Villa Park following his appointment in October 2022.

He has scored 14 goals in 56 appearances for the club, as well as one goal in 12 caps for Colombia.

Ten Haag Days Numbered As Fabrizio Romano Shares Details Of Next Manchester United Coach

NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Ronaldo criticises Ten Hag, says Man Utd must 'rebuild everything'

The clouds of uncertainty are now sure to follow Manchester United for the next two weeks after two consecutive draws in what were believed to be “judgment games” for Erik ten Hag.

The draws against FC Porto and Aston Villa were two performances that were polar opposite of each other in pretty much every way.

While that might hint at the fact that this team has no identity, it also leaves just about enough room for Erik ten Hag to make a case that he deserves time.

After all, the players seem to be still playing for him, fighting tooth and nail to get results without which the Porto game, at least, would have been a definite loss.

Amidst all the rumours and uncertainty of an Erik ten Hag sack, Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on the top name linked to the job.

Fabrizio Romano on Simone Inzaghi to Man Utd

The rumour mill went into overdrive recently after it was reported that the job of Man Utd manager was offered to current Inter boss Simone Inzaghi.

As per the reports, Inzaghi declined United’s audacious offer of letting him take over in the international break.

He is in the middle of another likely title race, with Inter sitting in second position after seven games, just two points behind Scott McTominay’s Napoli.

Why Ederson Still Remain At Manchester City – Guardiola

Published

on

Pep Guardiola said that Éderson remained at Manchester City during the summer because no club met their asking price for the goalkeeper.

Ederson was the subject of interest from both Al Nassr and Al Ittihad during the transfer window.

But speaking after the Brazil goalkeeper made a number of key saves to help City to a 3-2 win over Fulham on Saturday, Guardiola said he was glad an acceptable offer never arrived.

“He knew from day one I didn’t want it, we didn’t want it but the truth, I’m going to tell the truth, the offer didn’t come,” Guardiola said. “The real offer, because they make an offer, but to be for the keeper, for the team who won four Premier Leagues in a row, they have a value, you know, have a price. Otherwise, he cannot leave. This is the truth.”

Ederson has won six Premier League titles since arriving from Benfica in 2017.

He has twice been named in the PFA Premier League team of the year and won the Premier League golden glove three years in a row between 2020 and 2022.

The 31-year-old has kept his place as City’s No. 1 this season despite competition from Stefan Ortega, who signed a new contract in the summer.

“I said many times, how many years we are together? Eight years with Eddie? The success we had without him, I cannot visualise, I cannot,” Guardiola said. “We are lucky to have him. Hopefully, he’s happy.

“Ederson is an important player, but I always had the feeling that Stefan is an exceptional player. And sometimes Ederson has to have the feeling that he has to perform well, otherwise Stefan can’t play. And this competition, a healthy competition they have — because they respect and they have an incredible relation — make our team better.”
