Volleyball: CNS Spikers, Correctional record win at Div 1
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and Nigeria Correctional Service won their first matches at the ongoing 2023 National Division 1 Volleyball League in Kaduna on Monday.
CNS Spikers beat G-Ranks Spikers 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) while Nigeria Correctional Service defeated UCEM Spikers 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22) in the second National Division one match played at the indoor sports hall of Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
CNS Spikers who are yet to lose a match since gaining promotion into the National Division 1, gave a good account of themselves against G-Ranks Spikers. CNS Spikers made a huge statement in the first set winning by 25 to 19 points. G-Ranks started good in the second set but faltered in the dying minutes, losing by 23 to 25 points.
The third set produced a good rally and a couple of blocks but CNS Spikers team, boasting of a couple of junior and senior national team players won by 25-20 points.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Correctional Service with the experience of Dauda Saje and Chinedu Pascal produced an entertaining first set against UCEM of Enugu 25 to 23 points. UCEM tormented Correctional in the second set but could not hold on to the lead as they lost by 20 to 25 points.
Correctional and UCEM were head to head in the second set but experience proved to be on the side of Correctional as they took the set by 25 to 22 points.
