Willy Kambwala Joins Como on Loan: Former Man Utd Wonderkid’s Serie A Move
Willy Kambwala Makes Shock Serie A Move to Como After Osasuna Talks
Former Manchester United wonderkid Willy Kambwala is set to join Serie A side Como on a season-long loan from Villarreal, in a move that could give the young defender a much-needed chance to revive his career.
The French-Congolese centre-back had been close to joining Spanish side Osasuna, but Como reportedly made a late move to convince him to continue his development in Italy.
From Manchester United to Villarreal
Kambwala joined Villarreal from Manchester United for an initial €5 million fee plus add-ons, arriving in Spain as a highly rated defensive prospect.
However, his first full season at Villarreal was severely disrupted by injury.
A serious left hamstring tear ruled him out for most of the 2025–26 campaign, limiting him to just two appearances.
His injury problems are not new. The defender previously endured an 11-month spell on the sidelines after joining Manchester United from Sochaux in 2020.
Why Como?
Kambwala is reportedly looking for regular first-team football after falling down the pecking order at Villarreal.
Como’s move could provide exactly that.
Under the proposed agreement, Como will cover Kambwala’s full salary and the amortisation of his transfer fee, which is estimated at around €1 million.
The Italian club will also have a €10 million non-mandatory purchase option at the end of the loan.
For Kambwala, the move represents more than just a change of club. It is an opportunity to get consistent minutes, rebuild his confidence and show why Manchester United once viewed him as a player with serious potential.
After injuries and limited opportunities in Spain, Serie A could be the fresh start he needs.
