Man Utd open Crysencio Summerville talks as Marcus Rashford future stalls transfer plans

Man Utd open Crysencio Summerville transfer talks with West Ham as Marcus Rashford’s future clouds summer plans

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville by opening talks over a potential summer move.

However, any deal for the Netherlands international could hinge on Marcus Rashford’s future, with uncertainty surrounding the England forward continuing to shape United’s transfer strategy.

United make their move for Summerville

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have begun direct discussions with West Ham over a possible transfer for Summerville.

While negotiations remain in the early stages, the Dutch winger has emerged as one of the club’s priority attacking targets after impressing in both the Premier League and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

West Ham are believed to value the 24-year-old at around £50 million, meaning United face a sizeable investment if they are to complete a deal.

World Cup performances strengthen his appeal

Summerville’s stock has risen considerably following an impressive World Cup campaign with the Netherlands.

Although Ronald Koeman’s side suffered a Round of 32 exit against Morocco, the winger was among their standout performers throughout the tournament.

He scored in each of the Netherlands’ opening two group matches before providing an assist for Cody Gakpo during the knockout stages, further enhancing his reputation ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are also keeping tabs on Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, but Summerville currently appears to be one of the club’s preferred options.

Rashford decision remains the key

Despite their interest in strengthening the flanks, Manchester United’s plans remain closely tied to Rashford’s future.

The England international is due to return to Old Trafford after spending time away from the club, but uncertainty continues to surround his long-term prospects.

Rashford has not played a competitive match for United since 2024 and recently saw Barcelona decide against making his loan move permanent.

His reported £40 million release clause, which excludes Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, remains a significant factor as clubs continue to monitor his situation.

Until Rashford’s future is resolved, United are expected to proceed cautiously in their pursuit of attacking reinforcements.
