Bayern Munich close to contract extension agreement with Konrad Laimer after breakthrough in talks
Bayern Munich are reportedly closing in on a new contract agreement with Konrad Laimer after making a significant breakthrough in negotiations with the Austrian international.
The versatile midfielder has become an increasingly important figure at the Allianz Arena, and club officials now believe only the final formalities remain before a deal is completed.
Hoeness hints agreement is virtually done
According to reports from Germany, honorary Bayern president Uli Hoeness inadvertently revealed the progress of negotiations during a recent public appearance in Upper Bavaria.
Hoeness reportedly suggested that an agreement has effectively been reached, stating that only the player’s signature is still required to finalise the extension.
While some initial reports claimed he indicated the contract had already been signed, the consensus is that both parties have reached a verbal agreement and are now preparing to complete the paperwork.
The development represents a major boost for Bayern, who have been working for months to secure the long-term future of one of Vincent Kompany’s most trusted squad members.
Key player since arriving from Leipzig
Laimer joined Bayern on a free transfer from RB Leipzig in 2023 and has quickly established himself as a valuable asset due to his versatility, work rate and tactical intelligence.
The Austria international has already made 136 appearances for Bayern, scoring seven goals and contributing across multiple positions.
Before arriving in Munich, Laimer enjoyed a successful spell with Leipzig, where he accumulated 190 appearances and 15 goals while helping the club become one of Germany’s strongest sides.
Last season proved particularly important for the 29-year-old, who featured in 47 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.
His ability to operate in midfield, at full-back and in advanced roles has made him an indispensable option for Bayern’s coaching staff.
Focus remains on World Cup duty
Despite the positive progress regarding his club future, Laimer’s immediate attention remains on Austria’s World Cup campaign.
The midfielder has earned 59 senior caps and scored seven international goals for his country, playing a central role in their Group J campaign.
Austria opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Jordan before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Argentina, leaving qualification hopes hanging in the balance heading into their final group fixture.
A victory over Algeria would secure Austria a place in the knockout rounds as group runners-up, with Laimer expected to once again be a key figure for Ralf Rangnick’s side.
For Bayern, however, the expectation is that once Austria’s World Cup journey concludes, Laimer’s long-awaited contract extension will finally be made official.
