The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the officiating team for the highly anticipated AFCON 2025 semi-final clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and host nation Morocco in Rabat.

Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea to lead the game

CAF has appointed Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea of Ghana as the centre referee for the blockbuster encounter, which will determine one of the finalists for the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations 2025.

Laryea is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most experienced and dependable referees, having officiated at multiple AFCON tournaments, FIFA competitions, and high-profile continental fixtures. His presence is expected to ensure fair and consistent officiating in what promises to be a tense and closely contested match.

South African officials to assist

Laryea will be assisted by South African official Abongile Tom, who will serve as an assistant referee and also participate in Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties.

Additional officials providing continental balance include:

  • Zakhele Thusi Granville Siwela (South Africa)

  • Souru Phatsoane (Lesotho)

CAF’s appointments reflect their commitment to neutral and balanced officiating, especially in high-stakes games like a semi-final where tensions are high and every decision matters.

The Nigeria vs Morocco semi-final promises to be a classic, with both sides aiming to reach the AFCON 2025 final in front of a passionate home crowd.
