Man City Hit By Injury Setback As Oscar Bobb Forced Off Early Against Brentford

Oscar Bobb Leaving The Pitch Injured During Manchester City Vs Brentford Carabao Cup Match

Manchester City’s Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Brentford came with an unwelcome twist as young winger Oscar Bobb was forced off early due to injury, dealing Pep Guardiola another fitness concern.

The Norwegian talent, who has struggled with injuries over the past year, left the pitch inside the opening 20 minutes after picking up what appeared to be a muscular issue.

Bobb Suffers Fresh Injury Setback

Bobb had only recently worked his way back into the first-team picture after a lengthy absence last season caused by a fractured leg. The injury ruled him out for over 200 days and nearly 50 matches, stalling what had been a promising rise following his breakout 2023–24 campaign.

Against Brentford, the 22-year-old started brightly but soon pulled up holding his leg. City’s medical staff attempted to stretch out the problem, but it quickly became clear he could not continue. Phil Foden was introduced as his replacement, while Bobb left the Etihad pitch visibly frustrated.

Guardiola Provides Injury Update

After the match, Guardiola addressed the situation, offering cautious optimism.

“He left after 10 or 15 minutes,” the City boss explained. “He complained about the muscular region, the hamstring. Hopefully it’s not a big one and he can come back soon.”

While the full extent of the injury is still unknown, any time on the sidelines would be another blow for a player trying to regain rhythm and confidence.

A Career Interrupted By Injuries

Once regarded as one of the brightest graduates from Manchester City’s academy, Bobb’s progress has been repeatedly disrupted by fitness issues. This season, he has started just five league matches and has found himself behind Jeremy Doku in the pecking order.

In total, Bobb has managed only 720 minutes of action across competitions, registering one assist — which came in City’s opening-day 4–0 win over Wolves.

Despite these challenges, Guardiola has continued to back the youngster publicly, praising his intelligence, discipline, and ability in tight spaces, while emphasizing that staying healthy is the biggest priority.

Mixed Fortunes At International Level

Bobb’s struggles have not been limited to club football. During the October international break, he endured a difficult outing for Norway in a friendly against New Zealand. National team coach Ståle Solbakken was openly critical of his performance, though he later played down any long-term concerns.

What This Means For City

With fixtures piling up and rotation becoming increasingly important, City will be hoping Bobb’s latest setback proves minor. His versatility and technical quality offer Guardiola valuable options, especially during a congested schedule.

For now, all eyes will be on the medical reports as Manchester City await clarity on yet another injury concern — and Bobb waits for a chance to finally enjoy a sustained run of fitness.
