Chelsea Confirm Romeo Lavia Out for a Month as Injury Struggles Continue
Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Romeo Lavia will be sidelined for another month after sustaining a quadriceps injury during the club’s Champions League draw against Qarabag.
The Belgian midfielder was forced off just four minutes into the game, compounding what has become a frustrating spell of fitness troubles since joining the Blues from Southampton in a £58 million deal in 2023.
Lavia to Miss Key Fixtures
According to BBC Sport, Lavia is expected to miss Premier League clashes against Burnley, Arsenal, Leeds, and Bournemouth, as well as Champions League fixtures versus Barcelona and Atalanta.
His latest injury will delay his return until at least December, extending his lengthy absence from the squad.
Maresca: “We Feel Ashamed”
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed disappointment and sympathy for the 21-year-old’s continued setbacks.
“We feel very ashamed, especially for him, because he’s not been able to stay fit for a long period,” Maresca told reporters after the Qarabag clash.
“It’s not a recurrence of his hamstring problem; it looks like a quad injury. We’ll need to assess him further, but it doesn’t look good.”
Lavia’s Injury Woes
Lavia’s time at Stamford Bridge has been blighted by persistent fitness issues. Since his arrival, he has suffered 10 different injuries, missing 88 matches and spending a total of 568 days on the sidelines.
The midfielder has managed only 29 appearances in two years and is still yet to complete a full 90 minutes for Chelsea.
Despite efforts by the club’s medical team to carefully manage his workload, the former Southampton star continues to struggle for consistent playing time — a situation that has left fans and management increasingly concerned about his long-term impact at the club.
