Arne Slot Refuses To Focus On Liverpool Defence Despite Slump — ‘It Goes Against My Beliefs’
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has made it clear — he’s not changing his football philosophy anytime soon.
Despite Liverpool’s worrying slump, the Dutch tactician insists he will not sacrifice his attacking principles, even as defensive frailties continue to cost his team dearly.
The Reds suffered a shocking 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield — their sixth loss in seven matches — prompting widespread criticism of their leaky defence. But Slot remains unshaken.
“It goes against my beliefs,” he said. “I’ve won games before by adapting — like at Man City — but overall, I don’t think we’re conceding chance after chance. Apart from Palace and Brentford, we deserved more in most games.”
Liverpool’s stats tell a worrying story — no clean sheet in 10 games and conceding first in seven straight matches — but Slot’s response has been to double down on attack.
“I don’t see a reason to change our playing style completely,” he added. “We just need to defend better and avoid giving away big chances. Even last game, we conceded three — and they all went in.”
However, the manager did admit one clear area of concern — set-piece defending.
Liverpool have repeatedly been punished from corners and throw-ins, a weakness Slot says comes down to physicality and focus.
“It’s never helpful to concede a set-piece goal early,” he said. “Against Brentford, we defended 15 out of 16 well — but one was enough to hurt us. That kills your confidence and plan.”
Still, the Dutchman refuses to panic. Slot’s message to fans and critics is simple — Liverpool will attack their way out of trouble.
At Sports Market International, we’re watching closely to see if the Reds can turn things around — not by parking the bus, but by powering forward with Slot’s bold philosophy.
