Emma Raducanu Ends 2025 Season Early Due To Illness, Reunites With Coach Francisco Roig For 2026
Britain’s tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has officially withdrawn from her final two tournaments of the 2025 season — Tokyo and Hong Kong — due to an illness that has plagued her for the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old, who has been battling fatigue and low blood pressure since her first-round retirement in Wuhan last week, has decided to return home to rest and recover fully before preparing for the 2026 season.
Despite the setback, Raducanu had one of her most encouraging years since her 2021 US Open triumph, recording 28 wins and returning to the world’s top 30 for the first time in over three years.
A Promising Partnership Continues
Raducanu will continue working with Francisco Roig, Rafael Nadal’s former long-time coach. The pair first linked up in August and have agreed to extend their partnership into the 2026 season, with a winter training block already planned.
Raducanu previously joked that her initial trial with Roig was like a “black ops mission” as they tried to keep it under wraps after Wimbledon.
Under Roig’s guidance, she displayed her best tennis of the season — coming close to defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in Cincinnati and reaching the third round of the US Open before bowing out to Elena Rybakina.
Battling Through Injuries
Although her illness ended the season prematurely, Raducanu’s 2025 campaign showed resilience. She fought through a persistent lower back problem, endured several tight three-set losses, and even held three match points before falling to Jessica Pegula in Beijing.
Still, her quarterfinal run at the Miami Open and semi-final finish in Washington were standout moments — proof that the young Brit is rediscovering the form that made her one of tennis’s brightest stars.
Eyes On 2026
As she looks toward next season, Raducanu’s focus is on fitness, consistency, and stability — both in her game and her coaching team.
With Roig in her corner and a renewed sense of confidence, fans and analysts alike are hopeful that 2026 could mark a major comeback year for Britain’s number one.
