Monaco Hold Off On Ansu Fati Transfer Decision Despite Bargain Option And Sensational Ligue 1 Form
AS Monaco are taking a patient approach with Ansu Fati, despite the Barcelona loanee lighting up Ligue 1 with a sensational run of form.
The 21-year-old winger, who joined Monaco on loan from Barcelona, has hit the ground running in France, scoring six goals in his first five games, including back-to-back braces against Nice and Metz. His performances have reignited the excitement that once surrounded him as one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
However, despite holding a bargain €11 million option to make the deal permanent, Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro says the club will wait before making a decision.
“We are very happy with Ansu’s progress, but it’s still early. We want to provide him with the right environment to keep developing before deciding on his future,” Scuro said.
The Spaniard’s resurgence has been one of the standout stories of the French league this season. His brace against Nice not only extended his goal tally but also made him the fastest player to reach five goals in Ligue 1 since 1948 — an astonishing record for someone still rebuilding confidence after years of injury struggles.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are closely monitoring his progress. The Catalan giants view Fati’s time in France as a key opportunity for him to rediscover his best form and potentially return as a more mature and confident player.
Still, with his current trajectory, Monaco fans are already dreaming of seeing him in red and white beyond this season.
If Fati continues at this pace, €11 million could look like the bargain of the decade — but for now, Monaco are playing the long game.
